EMcC Racing

EMcC Racing Official FB page for trainer Evanna McCutcheon, trainer of multiple group winner Maarek.

Growing up on a stud farm with a family steeped in racing it was no surprise I set off to work in a racing yard as soon as possible, having attained my leaving certificate at 16. Having worked for Tommy Stacks for several years, I was really fortunate to progress to become Assistant Trainer with David Peter Nagle and more recently Barry Lalor. During my time working in these yards I was exposed to

many differing management routines, in addition to being closely involved in the training of the High Profile sprinter
“Maarek” 11-time winner, including Winner of:
Champions Sprint on Champions Day, Ascot 2012,
Group 1 Prix de L'Abbaye in Longchamp 2013
I have also had great success as a point to point jockey partnering top class point-to-pointer “Long Strand”(5 time Open Lightweight winner in 2012/13 season, and 2 time winner already this year). I was granted my training license in December 2013 and since then the number of horses under my care has been steadily increasing. Currently I have 17 horses in the yard ranging from several nice flat-bred 2,3 and 4 year olds to seasoned point to pointers - with 3 wins between them this year, and most exciting Maarek.

I am incredibly sad but I am also incredibly angry about the damage that has been done to our sport and industry by Gordon Elliott. I love horses and I love training racehorses. My entire life is governed by what makes the horses in my care happy. I’ve worked hard to have success and train winners but I work even harder to ensure any animal in my care is happy, healthy and knows they are loved. Extra hours in the field, beach trips, companions...there is nothing I won’t adapt or try to suit an individual horses requirement.

Over the years I’ve had owners prefer to send a horse to one of the “big boys”. It’s disappointing but I take it on the chin and keep working to aspire to do what they do. And today I wonder for what?

My disappointment and anger is further compounded by the deafening silence from the supposed industry leaders in Ireland. This isn’t good enough. Our “Sport of Kings” is on a dangerous path right now and blinkered silence is not the answer. I may not have a lorry load of contenders for Cheltenham or Punchestown, Ascot or Galway...but I do have a yard of horses and owners who know they are cared for, loved and above all else respected

There’s a lot of developments happening at EMcC Racing at the moment between new stables and some new horses. The wide and varied education starts when Evanna is initially breaking the young horses...it’s no wonder she’s been so successful over the banks in cross country races over the years when the babies are introduced to the double banks before they’re introduced to jockeys 🤗 there are limited spaces available for pre training and training
