The second shearwater here from Waterville😊 The pair went off to sea after dark.
Because of the swell tonight, it took a bit of driving around to find an ideal calm, sea-facing spot with no lights, but we got there in the end. Great to see two beauties with a good chance, thanks to the finders for getting them secured🙏

Such beautiful birds🥹❤️ This shearwater knew the right place to find help, waiting at the door of Adam's Kitchen this morning.
They did they right thing by putting him in a dry dark box in the quiet. He'll be released later with the other one from Waterville.

Manx shearwaters are fledging and beginning migration. They hatch here and when ready for South America/Africa, they fly out in the night. They get into trouble as they go over bright lights (especially those stark LED lights) which hinder them and the become grounded.
Grounded they are vulnerable to cars, cats and being unable to get to water.

They need to be brought to the shore after dark and gently released.

4 of the Pipistrelles from June 30 through July, Lady and Tramp, both juveniles with wing injuries that healed amazingly well with intensive care. (Both appeared to be cat predation).
Tramp was from further afield with some other babes that came in(pics soon), Lady came from a local roost that the following two, Henry and Henrietta, came from.
It's a Soprano Pipistrelle roost, I reared 2.5g Pipin fromt the same place last year.
Henry by far in the worst shape, stuck in webs and rained on.

The forest adjacent to the roost exit was clear felled in October last, it seems the juveniles this year are suffering with the trees gone.
They would have used the nearest trees to land on in flight practice to and from the roost.

All 4 released, I will make a compilation of feeds and flights that I captured at a later date🥰🦇

I'm focusing on bat resues this season because I'm specialising in Bat Ecology.
Bats are affordable for me feed, time and spacewise🦇❤️
(Swifts and birds of prey/owls would be the exceptions)

This could be useful to anyone who has asked to help me.
Being a solo volunteer myself, I can't take people, but Wildlife Rescue Cork can and they certainly need helpers❤️

🦊 Want to Volunteer with Wildlife Rescue Cork ? 🐾
If you’re passionate about wildlife and want to make a real difference, we’d love to hear from you!

A big part of what we do is rescuing and transporting injured wild animals across Cork. We’re always looking for committed volunteers to join our transport group to cover a maximum of Cork County and help us safely get animals to our Centre or to one of our partner vets.

🚗 To become a transport volunteer, you must:
✔️ Be 18 or older
✔️ Have your own transport

📲 Apply now via the volunteer form on our website (link in bio)!

👉 Please note:
Not all volunteers work directly with animals or at the rehabilitation centre. Due to logistics and animal welfare priorities, all new volunteers begin by assisting with transport. For those who progress to onsite work, we provide full training in cleaning and handling wildlife, following a minimal-handling protocol to reduce stress for the animals.

⚠️ Wildlife rescue can be emotionally challenging. You may encounter injuries, suffering, or sadly, animals that cannot be saved. This work requires emotional resilience and a focus on what’s best for the animal — not cuddles or comfort.

💻 No transport or desire to work hands-on with wildlife? You can still help!
We also need support with admin, social media, fundraising, and behind-the-scenes work — all essential to keeping the rescue running. If that sounds more like your strength, please still reach out via the website form or to [email protected]. Every role matters. 💪

Thank you for caring for our Wildlife. 💚

🚨 Found a Wild Animal in Distress? Here’s What to Do! 🦉🦊🦔

If you come across a wild animal that is injured, orphaned, sick, or in danger, please don’t wait — contact us directly to give them the best chance at help. 🆘

📸 Before reaching out, be sure to:
• Take clear photos of the animal
• Get an exact location (a dropped pin or Eircode is ideal)
• Note when you found it, what species it is (if known), and any visible injuries or symptoms

💻 Visit the “Contact Us” section on our website www.wildliferescuecork.com to fill in the form with all the informations.
📧 Alternatively, you can email us directly at [email protected] with all the above details — please do not message us on social media, as these messages are not monitored and may delay help.

⏳ Our emails are monitored by a small team of dedicated volunteers who also work full-time jobs. We appreciate your patience while we work to get back to you and assist the animal as quickly as we can.

Have you ever contacted us to rescue an animal ? Let us know your story in the comments !

Please share this post to inform as many people as possible and help us save more Wildlife 🙏

Thank you for caring for our wildlife. 💚

Bats are sentient beings❤️
They are more closely related to humans than mice. And they are vital to our ecosystems.
Most people do not see them up close and many do unthinkable cruelty to them, on purpose and through neglect.
Bats need our every kindness.
This clip is Echo, 5.2g Soprano Pipistrelle.
Released lastnight under cover of darkness🦇 to a secure area for Sopranos🥰
I listened to him on my bat detector settling in and hunting.

This sweet soul was found among 6 bodies of his kin.
He's a Soprano pip❤️
Luckily this fella, I called him Echo, has four small tears in wing and nothing worse. We're over a week in and not seeing any big results but few weeks care and the tears will totally heal.
He's self feeding so he's an easy patient while I'm still in college😊

If you follow this page, you probably know where this is going..
The spot he was found was just under a shed, in line with the roof of a house, where a cat had been waiting on the shed roof, by the roost entrance to hit them out of the air as they emerged or returned. Pet cats tend to do this for entertainment, a stray would not leave bodies.

The likelihood of bat casualties leaving orphans at this time of year is really high. Bats only have one pup each and the pups need their parents as much as any other baby does..

The usual plea to keep control of cats, especially at sensitive times of day.
15mins play time per day with your cat reduces the hunting behaviour by 50%. 😸🙏

Poor little 'May', a 3-4 week old fox cub, found on the side of the road with serious concussion. Clipped by a car.
I was able to treat her, and keep her stable for the evening and into the next day, then took her over to Wildlife Rescue Cork, yesterday, where they can rear her with other cubs ,if she pulls through.
She was able to eat and cry for her mom🦊
But she'll need time.
I would've fallen for her if she stayed with me, such a sweetheart and beautiful creature❤️🥺
Lots of driving, but worth it as I've college still, not enough time for intensive cases.

I'm not able to rear baby birds with my current schedule, as they require feeding at 30mins intervals throughout the day.
It is a high intensity rehab!
Even so, short term, I was able to get this little button (coal tit) , found in Muckross abbey, to a good stable state, stay over and then transport all the way over to the dedicated team at Wildlife Rescue Cork , I can't thank them enough for taking on so many animals from Kerry❤️🙏
