🌾 A huge thank you to the local students from Clifden Community School and Scoil Éanna Roundstone who volunteered their time and helped out today with the planting of more marram grass. This grass is vital in order to stabilise the sand dunes.

💙 It’s brilliant to see the next generation playing their part and showing enthusiasm to save our beaches from coastal and human erosion.

We are so excited to be a part of this upcoming series of community courses, all about how we can protect our beaches and dunes into the future.

These courses are open to anyone over 18 who wants to learn about dune systems and climate change, and gain practical skills on how to protect coastal ecosystems. Each course is two days, spread across two separate weekends 🐚

🦺 PROGRESS ANNOUNCEMENT

🌊 We’re delighted to share that with some of the funds raised to date we’ve been able to complete the installation of the chestnut fencing on Dogs Bay. The sand dunes are unstable and have been eroding fast, this fencing is essential in order to reestablish the dune system.

🐚 The cost of this project is substantial and we’re relying on the generosity of the local community and visitors to the area to support us. The next phase is the installation of this fencing on the Gurteen Bay side.

We would like to extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences to Margaret, Catherine, Claire, Colette, Owen and the extended King family on the sudden passing of Joe Owenie King. Joe was a much respected friend and neighbour who will be sadly missed. May he rest in peace.

📣 PROGRESS UPDATE 📣

🦺 With the funds raised to date we have been able to start installing the chestnut fencing. This fencing is essential to reestablish the dune system. In just under two weeks it’s incredible to see the positive impact this is already having. In the photos you’ll see the sand is getting trapped by the fencing and is depositing instead of further eroding the dunes. Great to see the benefits of the fundraising so far.

💶 The cost of our ambition is substantial and we still have a long way to go to raise the funds we need. We’re relying on the goodwill and generosity of the local community and visitors, thank you to everyone that has donated so far, if you have yet to donate and would like to support please find the details in the GoFundMe link in the bio. JOIN US FOR THE BIG BEACH CLEAN!

📍Meet at the Lifeguard Hut, Gurteen Bay, Roundstone

⏰ 2-4pm
🚮 Clean-up kits will be provided (If you have your own litter pickers or gloves please bring them along too!)

We’ve registered to take part in the in association with and .

During the Big Beach Clean, Clean Coasts volunteers are asked to be part of an excellent round the world citizen science data collection project and to carry out marine litter surveys to quantify the amount and types of litter on Irish beaches. These surveys are aimed at heightening awareness about the issue of marine litter and serve as an indicator of the magnitude of the problem. When we have collected the litter we’ll submit the beach clean data online and play a small part to increase knowledge and provide a lifeline to scientists that would not have the capacity to carry out this research alone.

We hope as many people as possible can join us on Saturday to take part in this project and to clean up our beautiful beaches. Even if you can only join for a short time please come along!
