Glenard Dogs

Glenard Dogs Join us at Glenard Dogs for Dog Sports Workshops, for the pet dog industry. GAK9 Sports Trailing Trainer, GAK9 Ireland Its fast, fun and furious!

Your dog is your best friend .... at Glenard Dogs, we like to think that every day with them is a gift, so make the most of it! Glenard Dogs is the first (and only so far!) GAK9 Sports Trailing Trainer in Ireland. I've certified with three mantrailing organizations - so I'm familiar with several methods - I firmly believe that the GAK9 self-discovery approach to trailing is the most natural method

of learning for dogs, allowing each dog/handler team to progress successfully without pressure. At Glenard Dogs, the emphasis is on your dog's welfare, with learning based on positive reward methods only. Mantrailing is the ultimate team building experience for you and your dog! Using the power of your dog's nose (and scent), you will work as a team to locate a hidden (missing) person. At the beginning of the search, the dog will sniff the scent article that the hidden person has touched and the handler/dog team follow the trail on a long leash to find them. As the handler, you will learn to read your dog's body language and cues to successfully follow the trail to finding the hidden person.

Welcome to K9 Ted (and his handler family - Caroline and John) to the GAK9 Ireland family! Ted had this game all figured out after just one trail and was doing a single blind before he left today!
We’ve a “tracker”dale padderdale on our hands 🙌

Just back from a fab few days trailing in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 (complete with sun tan!) …. Delighted to be invited as a second instructor for Rockstar Canines GAK9 summer trailing camp at the stunning Bowmuir Farm Holidays (dog holiday haven) …. Loved every single day with the loveliest bunch of people, who are crazy about their dogs. Trails were amazing! 🐾🐾👣

On my latest trailing trip …… Look who I found! While they have not a spot between them, love alpacas ❤️

Caught on camera …. k9 tries to kill handler.

To give him a finish where he wasn’t waiting for me to climb over trees, over ditches and cross rivers (like usual 😬), trail set with a tricky junction and our nemesis …. A contaminated pathway 🫣 but on a clear(ish) route.

One sneaky p*e but lots of lovely detailing (we are improving), he was on a roll ….. I was happy/lucky to just stay upright for a finish 😂😂😂

Says it all really ……

Says it all really ……

My way or the highway

I have a little spiel I give at the beginning of all my workshops which sets the scene for subsequent training. One of the points I like to bring up is the idea of being too dedicated to a system of training.

This is something I'm not.

I will jump ship and learn and teach a new system of tracking if one comes along that teaches the outcomes I seek in a better way than what I do now using the GAK9 methodology.

However, I do love the GAK9 methodology, even more so as I've got a strong foundation in IGP and article based methods in urban terrain. I used to love the Dick Staal and SWDI methods too some years ago.

In GAK9, the idea is that it is a foundational approach not a dogmatic one. This is something sorely missing in many other methods where social media posts love to lean into “the only way to fix/train/do this tracking skill is THIS way”.

It isn't that simple. There's so many ways to train a dog to track.

So beware of the dogmatic trainer, they will lead you to dead ends as soon as their system doesn't have an answer for your problem.
