"beware, beware of the chestnut mare" these beautiful animals don't deserve their bad reputation - provided as you know how to treat a horse right they can be one of the most beautiful teammates ๐Ÿ˜‰

I was asked to help Sadie when she started bolting and bucking. First thing I insisted on was a vet visit and chiro after seeing pain markers. The most common reason for an animal to act out is because of pain. The vet flagged her hormones and the wonderful Aine made a few adjustments combined with a slow gentle training plan to help build her body and confidence Sadie is now a completely different mare - unfortunately she was trying to communicate but sometimes we overlook the signs.

Now she is a beautiful, cuddly, kind mare who loves her ears scratched, I truly adore this beautiful mare. Onwards and upwards girls โ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜

Little adjustments lead to big changes.

This gorgeous guy used to be a nightmare to walk, he was a vet referral because of dangerous and uncontrollable behaviour. Now he happily walks with his mini hooman everywhere. He's coming on leaps and bounds and is such a good boy in the making. ๐Ÿ˜

"I can't wait for the summer it's so much easier to own a horse"

Should "summer neglect" be a thing, I'm seeing an increase in people throwing their horses into a field in the summer and forgetting about them driving past a field to" throw eyes on them ".

Horses tails having to be cut up short because the owners were unable to run a brush through them due to neglecting animals welfare. Cut so short the horses are being driven mad unable to swat at flies.
Manes being left in the same plaits for months until the stress or strain causing chunks to be lost.
Horses hooves resembling flippers or shoes clattering from being overgrown and neglected.
For the owners to show up once in weeks to have the horse dripping sweat after weeks of not being worked for them to leave again for another few weeks/months.

Horses are a responsibility, they require owners who are willing to put in time, effort and energy. Throwing eyes on them from the car won't tell you if they're lame, cut, injured or have rain scold. You won't be able to see if their rugs, rain/fly sheets are cutting into them or if the headcollar is grazing them. If they have twisted a shoe or have taken a bad bite or kick from another horse.

In my opinion summer neglect is a huge problem and something we all need to be careful not to fall into.

Far from the mare that was on the verge of being sold because of her behaviour and the devastated owner - to this. What a difference ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Having worked at the Ispca I do not condone breeding irresponsibly as the country is littered in unwanted puppies but I also think prevention needs to be changed.

I have met puppies as young as 3months already neutered and owners wondering why the puppy keeps urinating ( the dribbles were incontinence) in the house...

I have met dogs severely undeveloped mentally, physically and emotionally causing behavioural problems.

Not to mention increased risk of cancers, hip dysplasia, cruciate ligament rupture and incontinence.

Holding off until your dog is fully developed is vital for their health. But also as humans being responsible enough to prevent unwanted litters by taking extra precautions.

Preventing unwanted litters is a goal we all shareโ€”but it's time to rethink the surgical approach. Hysterectomies and vasectomies, which preserve hormonal balance, can safely be performed as early as 8 weeks of age, making dogs sterile without disrupting their natural hormones.

In this study, researchers looked at whether the age at which dogs were spayed or neutered, meaning how long they were exposed to their natural s*x hormones, affected how healthy they were in old age. They studied a group of long-lived pet dogs to learn what helps dogs live longer, healthier lives. Dogs with the fewest age-related health problems were considered the most โ€œrobust.โ€

The results showed that both male and female dogs who kept their hormones longer (i.e., were spayed or neutered later) were 3 to 10 times more likely to be healthy in old age compared to those altered earlier. Once hormone exposure and age were taken into account, there was no difference in old-age health between males and females.

This study highlights how important s*x hormones may be for staying healthy later in life and shows that early-life decisionsโ€”like when to spay or neuterโ€”can have long-term effects on health.
