Queenie visited us for her cardiac check up this week, and as always, brought along her Bear to keep her company ❤️

She is the best little lady for her scans, and is just so sweet. We absolutely love seeing her! ✨

Queenie owners never forget to bring her Bear with her, to help her feel more at home during her few hours staying with us. Anything that smells of home, such as a favourite toy or blanket can help a patient to settle in a hospital environment, even if their stay is only for a few hours. The small things make a big difference! 💜

Thanks to Queenie’s owners for their kind permission to post these cute pictures!

The horrors persist, but so do I. 👻😂

Lovely Grainne visited us earlier this week ⭐️ This gorgeous little lady relaxed so well during her scan that she decided to stay put afterwards and enjoy the continued belly rubs and chin tickles from our wonderful nursing team!

Helping our patients to feel comfortable and minimising their stress during their visit to us is always a priority 💜

Thank you to her owner for her kind permission to post.

We loved seeing Roxy again this week for her routine cardiac reassessment ❤️ We were delighted to hear that she is doing so well at home and is a happy little lady!

Here she is having a cuddle with our wonderful nurse Ciara after being a star patient for her echo! ⭐️

Roxy is in stage C of mitral valve disease and continues to do very well thanks to the wonderful care of her owners, and the support of her primary care vets.

It really is a big team effort to help our heart patients thrive and live with the best quality of life possible, despite their diagnosis. Hearing that a little patient is doing well and living their best life makes our day! 💜

🧐Are you comfortable characterising murmurs you have heard on auscultation?

✅Detecting whether a murmur is systolic, diastolic or continuous is important as this provides information which will help you to form a differential diagnosis list and assist you in formulating a sensible diagnostic plan.

❤️The vast majority of murmurs you will auscultate will be systolic, with diastolic murmurs being reasonably rare. Continuous murmurs are especially important not to miss, as the most common differential is a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA); a condition in puppies where prompt diagnosis and management is critical.

🧐 Are you comfortable characterising the timing of murmurs on auscultation?

🩺 Deciding whether a murmur is systolic, diastolic or continuous is important as it provides diagnostic information which will help you to form a list of potential differential diagnoses and subsequently pursue a sensible diagnostic plan.

♥️ The vast majority of murmurs you will auscultate will likely be systolic in nature, with diastolic murmurs being very rare.

🚨Continuous murmurs are especially important not to miss, as the most common associated differential is a PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus); a condition for which diagnosis in puppies is both critical and time sensitive.

⭐️Sweet Dougal visited us recently for a heart scan and check up - he was the best boy, enjoying treats and cuddles with Nurse Ciara during his scan. Here they are posing for a quick picture afterwards!

We always do our very best to put our little patients at ease during their visit, whether it be tempting them with a familiar treat from home (Dougal was a big fan of the ham kindly brought in by his family!), or a calm reassuring voice and chin scratch from one of our experienced nurses. Every patient is different, and we do our best to treat each as an individual.

❤️ We are so pleased that it was good news today for lovely Dougal!

Thank you to Dougal’s owners for their kind permission to post his picture.

The fresh certificate arrived in the post last week, and it was time to replace the old one on the wall!

As 1 of only 2 Advanced Practitioners in Vet Cardiology in Ireland, it’s an achievement I’m particularly proud of.

It’s fair to say that there is a lot of blood, sweat, tears (and a not insignificant amount of paperwork! 😂) involved in maintaining this accreditation! I was first accredited way back in 2020.

Advanced Practitioner status, awarded by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, recognises vets with advanced clinical knowledge, experience and ongoing professional development in a specific discipline.

This accreditation lasts five years, after which vets must apply for reaccreditation and demonstrate continued clinical work, training and education to remain on the RCVS list.

Maintaining this status reflects a continued commitment to high clinical standards and up-to-date cardiology care for our patients.

✨Kingsley visited us today for holter monitoring as part of his cardiology work up. ✨

Kingsley has been the sweetest little gentleman during his visits with us - so happy and well behaved - he has already gained a bit of fan club amongst our cardio team! 😍

Thanks to Kingsley’s owners for their kind permission to share his photo!
