TWO LEADING ANIMAL WELFARE CHARITIES MERGE TO CREATE NEW NATIONAL ANIMAL WELFARE ORGANISATION.

The Boards of the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) and Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) confirm both organisations have signed an agreement to merge to form a single, integrated national animal welfare organisation. The merger, when fully completed, will create the new National SPCA (final brand to be agreed and approved by the Charity Regulator) and will be operational by 1st October 2025.

The establishment of one leading animal welfare charity in Ireland will deliver a unified national animal welfare strategy across the country to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome sick, injured or cruelly treated animals. Ireland is currently in the midst of a national crisis in animal welfare with record numbers of animals requiring rescue, treatment and rehoming. This has put a huge strain on all organisations in the sector. This merger brings together Ireland’s two largest animal welfare charities who have always had the same mission: the protection of animals and prevention of cruelty. The new entity will benefit from combined resources, structure, expertise, facilities and geographical reach.

I had the pleasure of meeting these lovely girls yesterday in the DSPCA. They are currently looking for a home if you are in the market for a duo. If you can give them a loving 5 star indoor home, please drop the DSPCA a message directly or click on the link through to their website 🐇🐇

Meet the two lovely sisters – Clementine and Tangerine. These two girls came into the shelter after they were found living in unsuitable conditions. They had extremely overgrown nails and dirty coats. They were really nervous coming in to us but since being here a few months now they are totally d...

The same goes for the cold in the winter 🥶 Rabbits deserve to be indoors and safe ❤️🐰

☀️ Why do rabbits die in hot hutches? Because they’re extremely sensitive to heat. Rabbits can’t sweat or pant like dogs — their bodies simply can’t cool down fast enough. When trapped in outdoor hutches during summer, especially in direct sunlight, the temperature can spike dangerously high, leading to heatstroke and death in a matter of minutes. 😔

Even if the air feels warm to you, it can be lethal to them. Wooden hutches act like ovens, holding in heat and blocking airflow. Rabbits often suffer silently — by the time you notice symptoms, it may be too late.

🏡 Keep your bunnies indoors, in a cool, shaded, well-ventilated space. Use fans, frozen water bottles, and tiled flooring to help them stay comfortable. Their lives depend on it.

I thought I'd share this article from The Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund outlining the dangers of smoking or va**ng around your pets. Please don't smoke/vape inside when your rabbits are present. I have seen the effects on rabbits being taken out of rescue situations and it is horrible to witness ☹️🐰

COMMON RABBIT INJURIES TO WATCH OUT FOR…

Our sweet bunnies can suffer from all sorts of injuries, despite everything we try to do to keep them safe. In the next few days, we are going to share some information regarding the most common injuries.
▶️EXTERNAL INJURIES - are often caused from mishaps with objects indoors or out*. Seeing blood is often the first sign of an external injury. However, some wounds can be small and not real obvious. IF YOUR RABBIT IS BLEEDING, APPLY PRESSURE ON THE WOUND WITH A CLEAN TOWEL AND CALL YOUR VET IMMEDIATELY TO ASK FOR ADVICE.
-You should get in the habit of checking your bunny over regularly from head to toe for any signs of injury. Injuries from a sharp object can include puncture wounds, deep scratches, eye injuries, etc.
-Another common external injury seen in house rabbits are ELECTRICAL BURNS. Most rabbits love “spicy hay” and will chew through cables and wires! It’s important to bunny proof your home before you allow your rabbits to roam free. Keep all wires & cables out of their reach! There are numerous “cord covers” available & you should visit your local home store to see the one that will work best for you.
-External wounds can quickly become infected and may need antibiotics. Take your rabbit to see your vet as soon as possible for appropriate treatment. They may also need anti-inflammatory medications and pain relief.

*We don’t recommend outdoor time unless you are with them 100% of the time and they have had their RHDV2 vaccinations.
