But, with this handy continuous monitoring device, his owner can monitor their glucose levels at home, without the need to prick him. 🌡️ 22 degrees outside means the temp inside a car can rise to 33 degrees in just 10 minutes.🌡️ Sadly, some people still believe that parking in the shade and/or cracking open the window is okay if you’ve a pet in the 🚗 – it is not safe at all!
Air conditioning can fail and without being in the car, you're unable to tell whether it's working or not so; please, please DO NOT LEAVE a cat or dog, even for a few minutes on a hot day – it could cause them considerable distress and could be fatal.

🐱🐶💤 Let Sleeping Pets Lie This August Bank Holiday!
As we head into the long weekend, here’s a gentle reminder from all of us at The Irish Blue Cross: If your pet is snoozing, let them snooze! 💤
Just like us, pets need proper rest to stay happy and healthy. Waking them suddenly can startle them — especially older or newly adopted pets — and may even lead to unexpected reactions.
A few tips:
✔️ Give them a quiet, comfy space
✔️ Teach children to respect nap time
✔️ Avoid disturbing pets while they’re dreaming
This weekend, whether you're off adventuring or enjoying some couch time, make rest a priority — for you and your four-legged friends!

Every July, online searches to "get a dog" spike. And it’s easy to see why, sunny days, school holidays, and more time at home can make summer feel like the perfect time to bring a furry friend into your life.
But before you fall for those puppy-dog eyes, it’s important to know what you're signing up for. 🐕❤️
✅ Dogs are a long-term commitment, financially, emotionally, and timewise.
💸 The annual cost of owning a dog can exceed €1,500, depending on their breed and size.
Over their lifetime, that can add up to more than €20,000, including food, vet visits, grooming, training, pet insurance, and those inevitable surprise expenses.
When summer ends, real life returns. Children go back to school, routines change, and some new pet owners realise just how much time and care dogs need......every single day.
Dogs can’t be left alone for long hours. They may bark, howl, or become destructive out of stress and loneliness, which can affect your home and your neighbours. They need regular walks, training, play, and lots of love. And don’t forget someone has to care for them when you go on holidays.
So, if you're considering getting a dog this summer, make sure you’re ready for the years, not just the season. 🌦️🐕 See: https://www.bluecross.ie/pet-advice/before-getting-a-dog/ for more information

Tilly presented to us with lameness. As a fluffy-coated dog, it wasn’t until we closely examined her, we noticed something very different about her! This unique little lady was born with no toes on her hind limbs. Normally dogs have three bones in their toes. If you look closely at Tilly’s x-ray you will see, she has one bone on what would have been the outer toes and none for the remainder. Rest assured though, Tilly has not let this stop her living a full life 🐾
