We made it! It has been a week since we left Nantucket, but it feels like a year. The journey went well, all things considered - the only faux pas we had was at the Delta check-in desk. We stood for over an hour at the desk explaining to the agent that the tickets had been booked for months, and I had confirmation for the cats to travel in the cabin. It transpired the agent thought we were traveling to Iceland, and we quickly explained we were going to Ireland. Heart attack averted, and on we went!
The cats have been warmly welcomed and have settled in very well and have settled in quickly. They take turns controlling the stairs, and they each decide who is allowed up and who is allowed down. 🙄 Wasabi's lovely coat has turned into a frizz ball - it has been raining sideways since we arrived, and we have been going for walks between showers. He is not that impressed with the rain, but it is definitely something he will have to get used to! James has made arch enemy no. 1 a cute little Ginger who is begging to be left in...I am not falling for that one! The back garden will be fenced and ready to start in the coming week, letting them go out. Despite my best intention of not allowing cats on the table or on Granny Maur or Popa Val's beds, I have failed miserably. It is their house now, and in true cat fashion, they do whatever they please.
I want to thank the A team sincerely, Dr. Paula Klek and Mary Naughton of Animal Care with Kindness. They executed the veterinary paperwork perfectly, which was difficult given the holiday and the 10-day turnaround. Their attention to detail and expert communication throughout the process was second to none, and I will forever be indebted to them for helping me make the transition. Wasabi James Herriott and Gracie made fast friends with my sister Georgie and her daughter Fiona - I could not have asked for better traveling companions. I will never forget the kindness and generosity shown to me by my clients and the Nantucket community. Little words of encouragement, advice, and kind acts propelled me along - no doubt Nantucket is a hard place to leave behind. [email protected] is the best email for me!
