NOTICE: We Are Closing Permanently

Apologies for the lack of updates over the last few weeks. This is another sad post for me, I’m afraid. I have made the difficult decision to close the practice. It has not been an easy decision to make, and there have been many factors in my decision (including the current coronavirus situation). I have waited until now to inform you as I have been in the process of organising what happens next for my patients & their humans & wanted to provide you with a concrete update.

Veterinary care for all patients of Callan Veterinary Hospital will now be provided by Village Veterinary Hospital, Kells Road, Kilkenny. You can reach them on 056-7762674. They provide a very high standard of care and I am confident that they will look after you exceptionally well. I highly recommend the entire crew. We are working hard to make the transition as seamless as possible & the process should be complete within the next week or so. Please bear with us as we iron things out.

I am very sorry to be closing Callan Vets. It has been a wonderful journey and a real privilege to serve the people & pets of Callan & beyond; both with Bernadette way back in 2012/3, and then for the last five and a bit years. I’ve made some wonderful friends. I have seen playful puppies grow into wonderful mature dogs in that time. Getting to know an animal, seeing them grow & develop & providing healthcare from beginning to end is a true honour. There have been laughs & tears, but that’s the nature of Veterinary care, I guess. Thankfully the balance has always tipped towards laughter, though. There have been some remarkable characters (animal & human!) along the way.

Thanks to those I have worked with- Noelle & Tara have been brilliant support. I couldn’t have gotten by without them. Thanks to Anne & Rosemary too. Thanks to Bernadette & Donncha, who developed a great practice here & have been very helpful all the way through since I took over. Thanks to all my other veterinary colleagues for your support, especially for helping me out with holiday & out of hours cover, or for helping me out with difficult cases. Thanks to my neighbours here at Callan Veterinary Hospital- it must have been noisy here at night from time to time!

Most of all, thanks to my patients & their human keepers. Thank you for your support over the years, I’m gonna really miss being a vet in Callan. I’m living locally, so I’m sure I’ll bump into folk about the place.

Thanks also for your support after Kali passed away. It’s nearly two months now, but it’s still sore. I was completely blown away by the response people gave both on & off Facebook.

If you need to contact me, you can reach me by email: [email protected]. Unfortunately, I won’t be in a position to check it constantly, but I will try to get back to people sooner rather than later.

All the best, take care & thanks again.
Eoin.

MEDICATION & FOOD ORDERS AT CALLAN VETS DURING THE CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK.

Hi everyone,

As I said last night, we will be reducing our hours from later today.

ESSENTIAL SERVICES ONLY
All appointments already made for today will be seen, but all other non-emergency appointments & procedures will be cancelled until the end of the month. The situation will remain open to review. In case of emergency, please contact the clinic by phone on 056-7706000 & if the phone is not answered, instructions will be on the answering machine as usual.

RESTRICTED OPENING HOURS
We will remain open on Monday from 11am until 4pm for food & medications. The same will likely be the case for Wednesday & Thursday also.

MEDS & FOOD
We should have adequate supply, but we will be placing orders later today, therefore if you wish to order extra medication or food, you may do so by calling us on 056 7706000. You can also email [email protected]. Please DON’T USE FACEBOOK AS A POINT OF CONTACT AS IT IS NOT REGULARLY MONITORED. We’ll be placing orders around 3pm, so you should have orders in before 2:45pm for collection on Monday. Orders placed after that time will be placed on Monday for collection on Weds/Thurs. The cut-off time for Monday‘s orders is 1pm.

If you have not ordered in advance, we would ask you to phone to check availability of your product before coming.

Again, I’m sorry to have to do this & I don’t take this decision lightly. Hopefully, if we all respect the advice from the experts, the situation will return to normal sooner than anticipated & perhaps we can avoid scenes similar to those seen in some other countries. I initially did not anticipate that I’d need to take such measures and I still maintain that we should remain calm. I also strongly feel that the absence of panic does not mean complacency. If we all make small useful steps, even though we may not be at high risk of serious illness ourselves, we will, for certain help to reduce that risk for others who are more susceptible. Protecting those people, especially those close to me (and my clients) in the high-risk category is the main reason I am making this decision. The reasons I outlined last night play a part as well. Perhaps we can all benefit from some home-time too- Kali the elderly Dobermann will definitely enjoy having me about a bit more!!

I’ll update general changes to opening hours in due course.

Thanks for reading & hopefully we’ll be back to normal very soon!

All the best,
Eoin

Coronavirus & Callan Vets

Hi all, just to fill you in on our situation here at Callan Veterinary Hospital.

I am currently considering our plans for the next few weeks and I anticipate some curtailment to our regular service. I’m unsure yet what way to proceed, but will post here on Facebook when I finalise it.

At present, I intend at a minimum to reduce our hours and to cancel non-essential elective surgeries & appointments. This may, however, extend to closing until the risks have reduced or subsided.

I’m making this decision with 3 broad motives:
1. Public health
2. The logistics around childcare
3. To protect vulnerable people close to me from whom I cannot reasonably isolate.

This decision is in no way intended to contribute to the anxiety that many people are feeling already. I must, however, make judgements with consideration both for the newborn baby lying in my arms as I type and for others close to me who fall into the high risk category and from whom I cannot isolate.

Please keep an eye out for updates here on Facebook.

Sincere apologies for the inconvenience, I hope you understand my reasons & I will not be taking the decision lightly.

All the best,
Eoin

Some massive changes this week at Callan Veterinary Hospital!! My wife Anna had a bouncing baby boy yesterday morning, and today marks Tara’s last day with us at CVH before she moves on to her next adventure.

I am taking some time out for a couple of weeks to be with Anna and our family, but don’t worry, the clinic will be open for food & supplies. The lovely folks over at Village Vets on the Kells Road, Kilkenny are covering any veterinary issues you might have. Their number is 056 7762674.

Tara’s finishing up after four years here at Callan Vets to move on to an exciting new position whilst at the same time finishing her Animal Physio course. She’s been such a fantastic asset to the practice & we’ve had great fun working together. We’ll all miss her & wish her all the very best for the next step of the journey!

Noelle, who has been with Callan Vets since before I took over, and a familiar face to all will be back full-time to take over from Tara.

As I said at the beginning, some big changes for us at CVH this week, but happy exciting times lie ahead for us all! We’ll be back to normality soon, I hope!
Thanks for your support!

Eoin

Please Help

This pretty little lady is looking for her forever home. She is currently in a multi-cat foster home, but could benefit from being in a single-cat environment as she much prefers humans to cats! She is about 6 months old & is being neutered today. She will be ready for her new place almost immediately. If you can help find her a new home, please contact us via Facebook or by phone on 056 7706000.
