Why were early poodles often clipped before a hunt? 🐩🫧

🅐 To mark ownership
🅑 To prevent coat matting
🅒 To improve swimming efficiency and joint mobility
🅓 To prepare for shows

⬇️ Comment A, B, C, or D before reading on.

Most people think the poodle clip was about looks.
It wasn’t.

The original trim was designed to help poodles move efficiently in cold water, protect vital organs, and keep joints warm and flexible during retrieval work.

💡 We will reveal more about this historical topic in our short poodle documentary on 30.01 at Hotel Pullman in Zagreb.

Because when you understand why a coat exists,
you groom with intention — not imitation.

✨ Guest Speaker Announcement

We are proud to welcome Nathalie Doare Ariey-Jouglard as a guest speaker at NextGroomers – The Art of the Poodle in Zagreb.

Nathalie is an international grooming educator and author, and the founder of DAATA-ICDG and the International Grooming Society. Her work is deeply rooted in evidence-based grooming, animal welfare, and groomer well-being, and her educational frameworks are shaping modern grooming standards worldwide.

In her lecture, “Elevating Grooming Standards — From Traditional Grooming Practices to Evidence-Based, Holistic Practice”, Nathalie will explore how grooming can evolve beyond tradition into a more conscious, ethical, and sustainable professional practice.
She will teach:

• how skin, coat, sensory input, and environment directly affect grooming outcomes

• why certain “normal” salon habits may unintentionally create stress, fatigue, or limitations — for dogs and groomers

• how small, often overlooked adjustments can dramatically improve results, safety, and long-term career sustainability

• insights drawn from science, education, and real salon experience that many professionals are never taught, yet rely on every day
