🩺腸道切除手術

🐶🐶 1 歲的貴賓犬 Cha Cha, 被送到 VEC 時情況危急，腹部嚴重不適。

我們的團隊迅速採取行動穩定牠的狀況，然後進行診斷，確定其胃腸道內有異物阻塞。

📈 鑑於其病情的嚴重性，Cha Cha 接受了緊急手術。手術期間，我們發現了一個緊密壓實的毛球導致阻塞。不幸的是，一段腸道已失去血液供應，不再有活力，需要進行「腸道切除手術」。

🩺 約20厘米受影響的腸道需要移除，剩餘的健康腸道被重新連接。

手術後，Cha Cha 在診所留院 5 天，接受了包括輸液治療、疼痛管理和密切監測、重症支持等護理。

❤️ 我們很高興看到牠每天都有穩定而逐步的改善，逐漸恢復進食並恢復體力。

🐶🐶 Cha Cha, a 1-year-old poodle, was presented to us in a critical condition, showing severe signs of abdominal distress. Our team acted promptly to stabilise her before carrying out diagnostic imaging, which identified a foreign body obstruction within her gastrointestinal tract.

Given the severity of her condition, Cha Cha was taken to surgery on an emergency basis. During the procedure, we identified a tightly compacted hairball causing the obstruction. Unfortunately, a section of her intestine had already lost its blood supply and was no longer viable, requiring surgical removal (enterectomy).

Approximately 20 cm of affected bowel was carefully resected, and the remaining healthy intestine was reconnected.

Following surgery, Cha Cha remained hospitalised with us for 5 days, where she received intensive supportive care including fluid therapy, pain management, and close monitoring. We were pleased to see her make steady, progressive improvements each day, gradually returning to eating and regaining her strength.

Cha Cha has since been discharged and continues her recovery at home, and we are delighted with her progress so far. 💛

🌟 微創腹腔鏡手術 - 治療「卵巢殘留綜合症」🌟

🐱🐱 小黑是一隻 1 歲大的短毛家貓，之前的獸醫為牠完成絕育手術之後仍然不停發情。在最初那次手術中，獸醫找不到左邊腎臟、子宮及卵巢。

🔍 超聲波檢查顯示，有一個有功能性的卵巢組織仍然存在，懷疑有卵巢殘留。
🩺之後，小黑被轉介到 VEC，Dr. Hannah 利用微創腹腔鏡進行手術，這種方法提供更高效率和更清晰的腹腔診斷，成功為小黑切除剩下的卵巢。

💡 如果一隻已經絕育的動物仍然有發情週期，一定要進行深入檢查是否患上「卵巢殘留綜合症」。利用先進的影像學檢查以及微創手術，對診斷和治療效果事半功倍。

🐾 This spay case didn’t go as expected…

Siu Hak, a 1-year-old DSH who kept coming into season… even after being spayed 😳

During her original surgery at the primary vet:
❌ No left kidney found
❌ No left uterine horn
❌ No o***y identified on that side

🔍 Ultrasound suggested something we don’t see every day — a hidden o***y still active. Siu Hak was then referred to VEC for exploratory surgery, this time using laparoscopy (keyhole surgery).
With magnification on our side, we carefully explored……and there it was 🎯

✅ A remaining o***y — successfully located and removed.
If a “spayed” patient is still cycling, always think ovarian remnant syndrome. Sometimes it just takes better vision to find what’s hiding.

🐱 Siu Hak is now finally hormone-free and recovering well 💛

尿道造口手術 (PU)

🐱🐱 波兒是一隻5歲大的家貓，有持續復發性的尿道阻塞病史。反覆的膀胱阻塞可以致命，因為尿液無法排出會造成腎衰竭與電解質失衡。如果寵物不停地復發，獸醫會建議為寵物進行尿道造口手術 (PU)。

這項手術主要為公貓進行的，用於處理反覆或無法解除的尿道阻塞。透過建立一個新的尿道口，從而縮短和擴闊尿道。手術後，明顯減低未來再次尿道阻塞的風險，特別是對於反覆發作的貓貓。

⭐️手術的好處：

✅ 大幅降低再次堵塞的機會
✅ 減少急症風險
✅ 改善長期生活品質

👏🏻 波兒手術非常順利，留院三天便回家和主人團聚。

🔬 Surgical Case Highlight: Perineal Urethrostomy (PU)

🐱🐱 Ball Yi is a 5-year-old domestic shorthair cat with a history of recurrent urethral obstruction. Repeated bladder blockages can be life-threatening and, in recurrent cases, surgical intervention is often recommended.

Ball Yi underwent a perineal urethrostomy (PU) — a procedure that shortens and widens the urethra by creating a new urinary opening. This significantly reduces the risk of future obstruction, especially in cats with repeated episodes.

🏥 Hospitalisation: 3 days
📉 Risk of re-obstruction: Low
🐱 Recovery: Smooth and uncomplicated

🐶🐶 Cream 是15歲的史納莎，因為後肢上一個體積大而且不斷增大的腫塊，主人帶牠向 Dr. Hannah 尋求第二診療意見。

之前獸醫建議 Cream 需要截肢，對於一隻備受寵愛的年長狗狗來說，這個治療方案令主人非常擔心。考慮到牠年紀大，主人對全身麻醉相關風險亦非常擔心，這是可以理解的。

🩺 經過徹底的臨床評估和謹慎的手術規劃後，我們有一個合理和合適的手術方案，可以在保留肢體的情況下切除腫塊。

Cream 在全身麻醉下接受手術，手術非常成功，在不需要截肢的情況下，我們將牠的腫塊完全切除，麻醉恢復過程亦十分順利。

🐶🐶 Cream – 15-year-old Schnauzer, presented to us for a second opinion regarding a large, progressively enlarging mass on her hind limb. She had previously been advised that surgical removal might not be feasible without limb amputation. Given her advanced age, her owners were also understandably concerned about the risks associated with general anaesthesia.

Following a thorough clinical assessment and careful surgical planning, we felt there was a reasonable and appropriate opportunity to attempt removing the mass while preserving the limb.

Cream underwent surgery under general anaesthesia, which she tolerated very well. The procedure was successful, with complete removal of the mass achieved without the need for amputation. Her recovery from anaesthesia was smooth and uneventful.

⭐ This case highlights the importance of individualised assessment, thoughtful surgical decision-making, and the value of second opinions — even in senior patients — where quality of life remains the primary focus.

🐱🐱 小朋友是一隻 7 歲的貓貓，家庭獸醫診斷出牠的腳掌骨多處骨折，之後被轉介到 VEC 就診。

🩺 Dr. Hannah 為小朋友進行手術固定，在每條受影響的蹠骨（腳掌骨）植入獨立鋼釘，以恢復對位並提供穩定性，幫助癒合。

手術後，牠的腿部需要用夾板固定，每週更換，以便監察軟組織和骨折的癒合情況 📈

每次覆診，小朋友都有進步👏🏻

🐾 Multiple metatarsal fractures : Siu Pang Yau 🐾

🐱🐱 Siu Pang Yau, a 7-year-old cat, was referred to VEC following diagnosis of multiple metatarsal fractures by his primary care veterinarian.

She underwent surgical stabilisation with placement of individual pins in each affected metatarsal to restore alignment and provide stability for healing. Post-operatively, the limb was immobilised in a splint, which was replaced weekly to allow monitoring of soft tissues and fracture healing.

Progressive healing was achieved without complication, and Siu Pang Yau has returned to functional weight-bearing and normal limb use.

This case highlights the importance of appropriate fracture stabilisation and diligent post-operative management in achieving a successful outcome❤️

🩺 骨科案例分享：
⭐️股骨頭切除手術 (FHO)⭐️
治療髖關節脫位

🐶🐶 飛飛是一隻 5 歲的松鼠狗，因為在寵物酒店寄宿期間右後腳無法承重，被轉介至我們的急症服務就診，X光證實牠的右髖關節脫位。

與主人商討後，Dr. Hannah 決定為飛飛進行股骨頭切除手術 (FHO)。手術順利完成，無併發症，飛飛於第二日出院。

手術後，飛飛很快便開始使用後肢，康復進展良好。幾個月後覆診時，我們再為他仔細檢查：

✅ 無明顯跛行
✅ 功能恢復極佳
✅ 後肢肌肉量持續恢復

🔧 Orthopaedic Case Highlight: FHO for Hip Luxation 🔧

🐶🐶 Fei Fei , a 5-year-old Pomeranian, referred to our emergency service after being noted non–weight-bearing on the right back leg while boarding at a dog hotel. Radiographs confirmed a right hip dislocation.

Following discussion with the owners, surgical management was elected and a femoral head ostectomy (FHO) was performed. The procedure was completed without complication, and Fifi was discharged the following day.

Postoperatively, Fifi exceeded expectations — she demonstrated immediate limb use and progressed well through recovery. At recheck a couple of months later, she shows:
✔️ No observable lameness
✔️ Excellent functional outcome
✔️ Ongoing return of pelvic limb muscle mass

This case highlights the effectiveness of FHO as a salvage procedure for small-breed dogs with hip luxation, particularly when combined with early mobility and appropriate case selection.

🐯 Tiger | 一歲大的貓咪

Tiger 就診時右後肢不能承重。家庭獸醫的X光結果顯示有「脛骨結節撕脫性骨折」，於是牠被轉介到 VEC 外科團隊進行修復。

🦴 關於這種損傷：
這種骨折最常見於年幼、成長中的動物。骨折發生在膝蓋下方，因為肌腱或韌帶用力拉扯，把脛骨前面的突起位「扯斷」了。

🔧 治療方法：使用K-wire 和張力帶進行手術固定。

✅ 結果：Tiger康復進展良好，手術後已經重拾活力，繼續活躍地走動。

🐯 Tiger | 1-year-old Munchkin

Tiger presented non–weight bearing on the right hind limb.

Radiographs taken by the primary veterinarian revealed a tibial tuberosity avulsion fracture, and he was referred to our surgery team for repair.

🦴 About this injury:
This fracture involves the growth plate (physis), which is why it is most commonly seen in young, growing animals. The tibial tuberosity is the attachment site for the patellar tendon, and strong muscle forces during trauma can cause the growth plate to fail, leading to avulsion of the fragment.

🔧 Treatment: Surgical stabilization using a K-wire and figure-of-eight tension band

✅ Outcome: Tiger is recovering well and is already doing great post-operatively!

🐾 Coco’s Keyhole Spay Story 🐾

🐶🐶 Coco, a one-year-old French Bulldog, recently came in for her spay, and her owner opted for a laparoscopic (keyhole) procedure.

This is an advanced, minimally invasive technique which allows surgery to be performed through two small incisions. One incision is for the camera and one incision is for the instruments. Both ovaries are removed.

🔍 Recent studies show a laparoscopic spay has fewer complications and 65% less pain compared to a traditional open spay.

For owners, this means less post-operative pain, smaller wounds, and a faster return to normal daily life for their pets.

🦴 狗隻前十字韌帶斷裂 | 手術病例回顧 🦴

Puff，一隻10歲比熊犬，從梳化跳下後，後肢受傷無法承重。經詳細骨科檢查顯示，懷疑為前十字韌帶 (CCL) 斷裂。

🩻 診斷：
X光片顯示無骨折或併發病理跡象，確認是前十字韌帶斷裂，軟組織損傷。

⚕️ 手術處理：
翌日進行外側縫合穩定手術。關節成功穩定，這種技術適合小型犬隻。技術涉及使用一條粗縫合線將脛骨同股骨（膝關節兩塊骨）固定於正確位置。

🏥 手術後護理：
• 留院以作鎮痛及監察

🐾 短吻犬阻塞性呼吸道綜合症（BOAS）的手術矯正 – 🐶🐶 陳大飛

陳大飛，一隻 2 歲大的法國鬥牛犬，因 BOAS 到VEC 就診，其病徵包括容易喘氣、因氣道阻塞導致的睡眠障礙、運動不耐、活動後呼吸急促，以及伴隨的反芻等腸胃道症狀。

⭐️ 進行的手術程序

✅ 鼻翼前庭成形術 : 以擴闊狹窄的鼻孔，減少吸氣阻力
✅ 軟顎切除術 : 縮短過長的軟顎，消除後方氣道的阻塞

📉 即時術後結果

在甦醒時觀察到呼吸噪音顯著的減少。陳大飛留院觀察一晚，第二日便回家休養。

🐶🐶 🐾 BOAS Surgical Correction – Chan Dai Faye 🐾

Chan Dai Faye, a 2-year-old French Bulldog, presented with BOAS characterised by marked stertor, sleep disturbance due to airway obstruction, exercise intolerance, and concurrent gastrointestinal signs including regurgitation.

⭐️ Surgical procedures performed

✅ Alavestiobuloplasty to widen stenotic nares and reduce inspiratory resistance
✅ Soft palate resection (staphylectomy) to shorten an elongated soft palate, eliminating caudal airway obstruction

These procedures were performed under general anaesthesia with careful airway management.

📉 Immediate postoperative outcome

A significant reduction in respiratory noise was observed on recovery. Chan Dai-Fei was hospitalised overnight for monitoring and discharged the following day.

📈 Follow-up outcome

At several weeks post-op, the owner reports:
✅ Markedly improved airflow and exercise tolerance
✅ Resolution of regurgitation and gastrointestinal signs
✅ Increased energy levels
✅ Substantially improved quality of life
