Pirate 🐈⬛🏴☠️🐾
Pirate was spotted by tourists on our island last summer, and that’s how we learned about him. He was a tiny feral cat with a serious eye problem and a difficult start in life.
In November, he was neutered by the veterinarians of Save a Greek Stray Organization, who recommended that his eye should be surgically removed. However, our veterinarian suggested that we first try a conservative treatment in an effort to save the eye before proceeding with such a drastic intervention. We decided to give him that chance.
For some time, the treatment worked well, and we were hopeful that the eye could be preserved.
But Pirate is a brave and spirited little boy. While trying to establish himself within the colony, he got into a fight and severely injured his already damaged eye. Unfortunately, the injury was beyond repair, leaving us with no other option but to proceed with the eye removal surgery.
With the help of the veterinarians of EDKE, who visited our island, Pirate underwent the surgery and spent more than two weeks recovering safely in a cage, receiving all the care and medical attention he needed.
Today, Pirate is back where he belongs. He has become much friendlier and is living a happy, carefree life as the handsome one-eyed pirate he was always meant to be.
Every cat has a story, and Pirate’s story is one of resilience, compassion, and second chances.
