“Can my dog say hello?”

No.

Simple as, let’s respect people saying no for whatever reason it may be.

“At the Association for Professional Dog Training International, we stand by and for dogs.

Since adopting our Standards of Practice in April 2022 (and reaffirming them in 2024 with the launch of APDT International), one core principle guides everything we do: No training or behavior scenario justifies the intentional use of aversive punishment.

This conviction is rooted in peer-reviewed science and is consistent with the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior’s position: tools designed or used with the intent of causing fear, pain, or startling (e-collars, prong/choke collars, bonkers, shaker-cans, leash corrections, harsh verbal reprimands, etc.) elevate stress, suppress learning, and increase the risk of aggression—outcomes that undermine the well-being of both dogs and the people who care for them.

As the largest association in the world for the dog training field, our community’s mission is to advance the profession through science, compassion, and education. We champion methods that safeguard welfare, build trust, and create lasting behavioral change.”👏🐾

At the Association for Professional Dog Training International, we stand by and for dogs.

We champion methods that safeguard welfare, build trust, and create lasting behavioral change. But a standard is only as strong as the community that lives it. APDT International is a global network of trainers, behavior professionals, veterinarians, animal care professionals, and dog lovers who believe progress happens when knowledge is shared, ideas are explored respectfully, and support flows in every direction. In support of this, all APDT International Members attest to practice within these standards and are held accountable by one of the most robust systems of ethics in the profession.

When we learn together, grow together, and hold space for one another’s perspectives, we elevate the profession and create a brighter future for every dog-human team. If there are differing ideas or opinions, we encourage a healthy, respectful and generative conversation so all may learn and grow as a result. APDT International is a hub for information and collaboration, and we accept that progress is born through challenges to ideas. These challenges should be explored without disrespect, harassment, and personal attacks, which can be significantly diminished as we value science over opinion and prioritize data over hearsay.

Let’s keep building this compassionate, science-driven community together — one conversation, one collaboration, and one success story at a time.

Lovely little Luna 🌙

We’re doing some work on Luna’s confidence as she’s a worried little soul outside of the house and has some anxieties especially around sounds.

But her and her guardian are smashing it and making progress already 🫶🏼

Success story! (Because I forgot to welcome lil Pepper to the team 🤦🏼‍♀️😂)

Lovely little Pepper here was struggling at home while your guardians were working hard in Zoom calls, she was struggling with settling down during the day, especially since she was still getting used to her new lovely house too!

So we did some nice enrichment style activities to help tire out that quick brain of hers along with teaching her some nice settling work too!

This was Pepper after our last session, both guardians were super happy with her progress!

Well done Pepper, Danielle and Chris! 💪🏽🐾

No National Pet Day post from me?
That’s because in my heart, every day is Pet Day!
Our furry, scaly, feathery (or any other textured) companions don’t need a calendar date to be celebrated — they’re loved, cherished, and spoiled daily (as they should be!)

👏🏼 stop choking ya dogs. Using tools doesn't train your dog, remove the tool and the behaviour is still there or better still, they create more fear based behaviours e.g. reactivity.

Training your dog should not require tools and force.

Not sure how that could possibly work?
DM me, let's train your dog without a single "tool" in sight (unless we see some balanced trainers 👀)

Grot/garotte collar. A choke cord. Please explain how it doesn't choke a dog?

Nice and thin, so the pressure is maximised.

People who use this shouldn't be allowed near a photo of a dog, let alone a real one.

Remember, when you interact with content online, you spreads the reach to those who are ready to hear the message of this. If you disagree, the best thing to do is to scroll on by! (Reactions emojis like/love/laugh also count)

Edit - I'm not interested in any specific use of slip leads or choke cords for any "unique" circumstances you may have.

I was featured in my local news!
The amount of negative press surrounding Bully breeds is heartbreaking. These dogs can be some of the most gentle, loyal, and loving companions—and it’s time we start changing the narrative.

Yes, I know the ban is already in place. So why speak up now?

Because I’ve been there. I’ve been one of those owners with a so-called “dangerous dog.”
My girl Sav Bear—a beautiful American Akita—was the sweetest soul. Still, people would cross the street to avoid her, question whether I could control her, and even “professionals” warned me she might one day turn on me simply because of her age.

She never did.
What she did do was love me fiercely, stay by my side, and bring endless joy into my life. I miss her every single day.

I’ve felt the stigma. I’ve felt the judgment. And I know how isolating it can be to have your best friend labeled a monster.

Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Pit Bulls, Staffies, Akitas, XL Bullies…
It’s never the breed. It’s how they’re raised, loved, and understood.

To all the owners of these misunderstood breeds—share your stories. Share your photos. Be their voice.
The world needs to see the love behind the labels. Let’s stand together and show them who our dogs really are.
