We’re still waiting for Jem’s gut microbiome results and keeping everything crossed that they arrive this week 🤞

As with so many things, it feels a bit like one step forward, two steps back at the moment.

When we first switched Jem onto his novel protein, we saw some really positive changes. His itching reduced, his skin looked calmer and he generally seemed more comfortable. Unfortunately, over the last week or so, the itching has gradually started to increase again.

The good news is that we have a spray that really helps manage his symptoms and keep him comfortable. The disappointing part is that after such an encouraging start, we were hoping we’d found the answer.

For now, we’re sticking with the plan. We’re only a few weeks into the elimination diet and I’m reluctant to change anything until we have the microbiome results and a clearer picture of what’s going on.

These investigations are rarely straightforward and it’s easy to get carried away with every improvement or setback. So we’re trying to stay patient, trust the process and focus on gathering as much information as possible before making any decisions.

Hopefully we’ll have some answers soon. In the meantime, Jem is continuing to trail, train and enjoy life as normal ❤️🐾

Did you know…? 🐾👣

We have a dedicated trailing community you can join!

Whether you’re completely new to trailing, a seasoned trailer or somewhere in between, our group is a place to:

🐾 Chat all things trailing
🐾 Ask questions and share experiences
🐾 Find trailing sessions near you
🐾 Connect with instructors and fellow handlers
🐾 Celebrate successes (and laugh about the occasional trailing mishap!)
🐾 Learn more about what makes trailing such an incredible activity for dogs and people

One of the things we love most about trailing is the community that grows around it. People who started as strangers often become friends, supporting each other both on and off the trail.

So if you’re looking for more trailing content, more trailing conversations and more trailing people, we’d love to welcome you.

🐾 Think your dog is clever? Wait until you see them work out a trail… 🐾

After our water trails in Bollington and a quick dry off, we headed to a different location for our second session of the day!

Teams Meeka, Ebony and Murphy joined us for some tricky trails, challenging junctions and, at one point, we had to rescue someone from prison… or something like that anyway! 😂

The dogs were faced with some real problem-solving challenges and it was so rewarding to watch their confidence grow as they worked things out for themselves. There’s nothing quite like seeing a dog commit to a trail and trust their nose, even when the answer isn’t obvious.

Trailing isn’t just about finding people and dogs. It’s about building confidence, strengthening your partnership and giving your dog the chance to do what they do best.

🐾 Ready to see what your dog is capable of, book a session and join us on the trail.

💦 Can your dog trail through water? Absolutely! 💦

First up on Saturday we had the first of our water trails with a 07:30 start. We soon woke up as we hit the water!

Teams Tobey, Buddy, Pippin and Ludo were our explorers and once the dogs realised they were actually allowed in the water, there was no stopping them!

It was amazing to watch the dogs work out the trail as we waded upstream, taking every opportunity to pick up scent in the air and on rocks, vegetation and other surfaces along the way.

So, if you’re wondering whether it’s possible to evade capture by wading through water… not if one of these dogs is on your trail! 🐾

A fantastic morning of trailing, teamwork and adventure. And yes, there was only one fall in… but what goes on trail, stays on trail! 🤫😂

Fancy trying something a little different with your dog? Our bespoke trailing sessions allow us to tailor the experience to your team, whether that’s water trails, confidence building, problem-solving challenges or simply having fun together.

📩 Get in touch to book your bespoke session and come join us on an adventure.

Another great morning of trailing in Congleton Park! 🐾👣

Today we were joined by Teams Audrey, Zak, Troy, Buddy and new-to-us Munchie.

All the teams did amazingly and it was lovely to see each dog tackling their trails with confidence and enthusiasm.

Munchie has trailed before but hadn’t done any trailing for over three years. You’d never have known it! She took off at the speed of light and smashed her trails. We always love seeing small dogs showing everyone just what they’re capable of.

A huge congratulations to Team Zak, who passed his Beginner Man Trail Assessment today. Having now completed both Beginner assessments, he’s ready to move on to Intermediate level. Fantastic work! 🎉

Whether you’re new to trailing, returning after a break or working towards your next assessment, we’d love to see you on a session.

Rain forecast? What rain forecast? 🌦️

The skies cleared, the rain stopped and, as they say, the sun shines on the righteous! 😇🐾

Last night in Congleton, Teams Pippin, Freya, Maggie and Ludo were challenged with double runners, moving targets, added difficulties and plenty of distractions. Safe to say they rose to the occasion brilliantly!

There was some fantastic trailing, some impressive problem-solving and, as always, lots of laughter along the way.

Want to see what your dog is capable of when they get to use their nose? We’d love to help you find out.

📩 Book today and secure your session!

Looking for something different to do with your dog this summer?

What if there was an activity that could:

✅ Tire your dog out without endless miles of walking
✅ Build confidence in nervous dogs
✅ Give busy dogs a positive outlet for their natural instincts
✅ Strengthen the bond between you and your dog
✅ Be suitable for all breeds, ages and abilities

That’s exactly why so many people are discovering trailing.

Using their incredible sense of smell, dogs learn to follow a specific scent trail to find a person or animal. It’s amazing to watch, incredibly rewarding and most importantly, dogs absolutely love it!

Whether you have a young dog full of energy, a senior dog who still enjoys an adventure, or a dog who needs a confidence boost, trailing can be adapted to suit them. You might be surprised by just how capable they are!

Why Scout? Why Jem?

Our amazing dogs came to us under very different circumstances and their names are a story in themselves…

I first heard about Scout when the rescue I’d been volunteering with told me there was a stray Staffy who’d been picked up. It was the middle of the first lockdown, so I put my hand up to foster.

I still remember picking up this dusty, tense little dog who seemed desperate for fuss but also so scared. I knew immediately I was in trouble… my husband grew up with brindle Staffies and I’ve always had a soft spot for bull breeds. She felt like family almost instantly.

Her name took a little longer.

She arrived as Pumpkin but, over the weeks, her personality started to shine through and she reminded me so much of my favourite book character, Scout from To Kill a Mockingbird, fiercely loyal, deeply loving towards her family and completely full of mischief.

She became Scout.

In many ways she’s a typical Staffy. She’ll happily ignore most dogs in favour of humans, who she absolutely adores.

The exception? Dachshunds.

For some reason she was obsessed with them… play bows, spinning, excitement, the full routine!

Then the inevitable happened.

I got tagged in a rehoming post for a standard dachshund cross Chihuahua (thanks Rachel!). He was our dog. And apparently we were his people too.

So of course we named him Jem, Scout’s brother in the book. Slightly more sensible, but usually willing to go along with the hijinks.

We’ve had bumps along the way because multi-dog households rarely run perfectly all the time, but the little rescue family we’ve created feels incredibly special. Two dogs, three cats (the Meowfia) and usually a whole heap of mischief.

So that’s us…

How did your dogs get their names?
