Baby bird season is here 🐦🌿
If you come across a fledgling on the ground, don’t panic — this is often a normal part of learning to fly. As a mobile veterinary nurse, here’s my advice:
✅ Observe first from a distance — parents are usually nearby and still feeding them
✅ If the bird is fully feathered, bright and hopping around, it’s likely best left where it is
✅ Keep dogs and cats away while the fledgling is vulnerable
✅ If possible, place them somewhere slightly elevated nearby, such as under a bush or on a low branch, away from immediate danger
🚨 A fledgling may need help if it is:
• Injured or bleeding
• Very weak, cold, or unresponsive
• Covered in flies
• Caught by a cat
• In immediate danger with no safe nearby area
❌ Avoid feeding bread, milk, or giving water directly into the beak, as this can do more harm than good.
If you’re unsure, contact a local wildlife rescue or veterinary professional for advice.
A little patience and distance can give these tiny birds the best chance of thriving 🐣💚
