With the extreme weather forecast over the next week, I wanted to make a quick post regarding training walks.
As many of you know, your dogsβ welfare will always come before anything else. With temperatures expected to be much higher than normal, I am becoming increasingly cautious about carrying out walks as we usually would.
Iβll be contacting clients throughout the day to arrange the safest possible walking times to avoid the worst of the heat, although these may need to change depending on how conditions are each day. Iβll be monitoring every dog closely and taking each day as it comes.
If at any point your dog seems uncomfortable, tired, or struggling in the heat, I will be bringing them home early to make sure they stay safe and avoid overheating. No training goal is ever more important than your dogβs health and wellbeing.
Please make sure your dog has access to plenty of fresh water and somewhere cool and comfortable to rest after their walk.
If you would prefer to cancel walks during this hot spell, please know that I would completely understand and fully respect that decision. Every dog copes differently in warm weather, and there is absolutely no pressure at all to continue walks if you are concerned. Your dogβs safety and wellbeing must always come first, and because of that I will be waiving cancellation fees throughout this period. β€οΈπΎ
Signs of overheating in dogs can include:
β’ Excessive panting
β’ Heavy drooling
β’ Lethargy or weakness
β’ Bright red gums or tongue
β’ Vomiting or diarrhoea
β’ Confusion or wobbliness
β’ Collapse
Please also keep in mind other dangers during hot weather, including hot pavements and concrete burning paw pads, artificial grass becoming extremely hot, dehydration, and how quickly heatstroke can develop β even during shorter walks.
Thank you all for your understanding and support. Keeping your dogs safe, happy, and well will always be my absolute priority.
