From blasting sunshine to high humidity

Let this be your reminder! Humidity is just as dangerous as the blasting sunshine when it comes to our pets and our care!

Please take the same precautions & watch out for signs of your pets are struggling! And if you are concern phone your vet right away!

Don’t be disappointed as it’s not blaring sun or temps like yesterday if your pet professional cuts walks short/do sits instead, dog trainer cancels or limits sessions, your groomer cancels.. we do this for the pets and our own welfare! We love our jobs and the animals and have a duty of care to ensure their safety!

We enjoyed a 6am walk this morning, there wasn’t many people in sight, it was beautiful along coastal paths to the beach, where the breeze hit our faces and we sat and listened to the birds 😍 what are you weekend plans? ❤️

To hot to walk 🥵 Training to the rescue!

We’ve swapped a walk for a quick training session: focusing on mental stimulation rather than being in the sun!

Here’s what we covered:
🐶 Leave and added in a bowl for Peggy & worked up to me being a disance. (Zeus is very confident with this one)

🐶 Away (this is newish for Peggy but Zeus has done this from a pup)

🐶 Bed & in a crate for Peggy (both proofed behaviour)

🐶 Down (Zeus this is something he has been doing since a pup, newish for Peggy and she’s not yet proofed)

🐶 Touch at different levels and different hands! (this is both their favourite, both are super confident with it)

🐶 Come & Stay (Zeus again knows this - Peggy is a working progress)

🐶 Sit and stand (which is part of Zeus physio routine)

They also practiced taking turns today - this is something that Peggy struggles with, she loves to learn and gets over excited to join in, They are both snoozing now 😴

This may seem like every day cues but small sessions like this are very valuable for not only the mental stimulation,it strengths behaviours and our bond ❤️

Every time we hear from you, it genuinely makes our day – the happy dance is real! ❤️

I don’t often post about reviews or share the lovely messages we receive, even though they mean the world to us. But honestly, every kind word and every small win reminds Me and Millie exactly why we do what we do. We feel every step of progress with you.

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear during training sessions:
Lots of owners believe the only reward you can give a dog is food.

And rightly so, it’s what a lot of people talk about being a high value. This isn’t always a high enough motivator for some dogs.
Some aren’t interested in treats, some can’t have any food outside of their usual diet.

This is when we have to find what motivates your dog.. is it playing,sniffing or human contact and teach you to use it at the right time to elevate your training successfully.

Here’s how we’ve ended up doing what we do & our mission ❤️

Jess (me) founded Hoof & Paws in 2018, with the vision of helping owners with pet care for animals who required a bit more than what those could offer in the area, this who need special 1-1 care; After becoming known for taking on reactive dogs like my dog Bella, knew we needed more hands to help more people and that’s then Millie joined us.

By 2022, Jess had been helping owners with their dogs reactivity for a number of years and had gained further education to become a trainer, Millie then had also followed on to become a trainer, since then we’ve both worked with lots of owners supporting them with their reactive dogs, and many more issues that dog ownership can face.

Although we have a few different areas of interest we are both are super passionate about helping owners and helping more than just the radius on which we can offer 1-1s in 🙂

this is why this year we’ve decided to launch the Hoof & Paws Academy to help more people, more dogs and offer them more than just the education that comes from traditional classes, To hold owners hand when they are having a bad day, to celebrate their wins and to allow them access to experts in the field who have been kind enough to share their knowledge with our members.

Who is the Academy for?
Answer is: it’s for you! The everyday dog owner! For who’s struggling, the owners who can’t afford regular training sessions or don’t want/can’t to attend classes..

Even the owners who just wants to know more about their dogs behaviour!

We’ve created a community hub of learning that’s always expanding, we are bringing you top experts, we’ve created something that’s affordable to help more owners with their struggles so you can be the very best for your
dog!
