Spring has finally arrived, bringing longer days, warmer weather, and the perfect opportunity to enjoy more time outdoors with your dog. Whether you’re exploring the countryside or taking a stroll through town, it’s a lovely season to get out and about but there are a few things to keep in mind…
As temperatures begin to rise, pavements can warm up quickly, especially in urban areas. It’s always worth checking the ground with your hand before heading out to protect your dog’s paws. In the countryside, be mindful of livestock and nesting wildlife, particularly in more rural parts of Surrey where ground-nesting birds are common this time of year.
Spring also brings an increase in seasonal plants, some of which can be harmful if ingested. Keep an eye out for common hazards such as daffodils, bluebells, and other garden plants when walking in parks or residential areas. Ticks also become more active during this time, so it’s important to check your dog after walks, particularly if you’ve been in long grass or wooded areas.
