👀🐾 Remember the mysterious “186” post?

Well… it currently looks slightly less “state-of-the-art specialist hospital” and slightly more “builders’ tea break” ☕🔨😅

But progress is happening every day, and we’re so excited to see the new space coming together.

This expansion will help us continue to grow Vita Referrals and support even more patients, owners, and referring practices across Yorkshire and beyond.

🐾🩺 Meet Murphy — a gorgeous Boxer dog referred to Vita for management of fractures involving the radiocarpal bones within his wrist joints.

These injuries are rare and can be particularly challenging, with many dogs ultimately requiring the wrist joint to be fused in order to relieve pain and restore stability.

Fortunately, specialist surgeon Rob was able to collaborate with a human orthopaedic screw distributor to source highly specialised implants that could be completely buried within the bone. This allowed the fractures to be carefully reconstructed while preserving movement within Murphy’s wrists.

Using advanced imaging and detailed surgical planning, we were able to tailor the repair specifically to Murphy’s condition — and seeing him back up and walking comfortably is exactly why we do what we do.

🩺🐾 Tailored Surgery for Every Patient 🧡🖤

The other week, we treated three young dogs with tibial fractures, each presenting with a different level of complexity.

Two of these fractures were repaired using minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) through small incisions at the top and bottom of the leg— allowing stabilisation through small incisions while preserving the biology of the fracture site and promoting faster healing.

The third case required a more traditional open approach, with double plating, due to the challenge of having just 8mm of intact bone between the fracture and the ankle joint. Careful planning and precise ex*****on were essential to achieve a stable repair.

It’s encouraging to see wider conversations happening across the profession, including the recent CMA report, with increasing focus on transparency and value for pet owners.
