Stop your dog from pulling on the lead with the Stop Start Technique

To teach this you need to stop walking AS SOON AS your dog puts tension on the leash.

When this happens you stand still and wait for your dog to look up at you.

When your dog gives you attention, that will be the cue to start the walk again.

In the video you will see that when we stop we allow the dog to have a sniff around. This doesn’t mean that the dog then drags us somewhere else. We allow the dog time to get to know the area and when they are ready they will look up at you.

By doing this and allowing your dog time to sniff and look around, it’s gives them a chance to become comfortable with their environment. This will make them more confident.

How to introduce a worried dog to a harness.

This dog was worried of the harness and wouldn’t go near it. Before filming we did some work on building a positive association with the harness whenever he saw it.

At this stage we are just working on getting him comfortable with the scary part of putting his head through the harness.

Moving on from here we will be looking at getting him comfortable with feeling the harness settle on him and then doing the clips up
