๐ŸพMay is Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month ๐Ÿพ

Here at Camlas we are lucky to have an amazing team of 4 Registered veterinary nurses. We also have the privilege of training the next generation of nurses ๐Ÿ’š

Did you know that Veterinary Nurses are :

๐Ÿ’š Anaesthetist's - they closely monitor their patients while anaesthetised and sedated.
๐Ÿ’š Recovery nurses - they ensure the safe recovery of all patients that have undergone procedures.
๐Ÿ’š Lab technician - they are the ones who run all our in house blood samples - perform microscopy and urinalysis to name a few.
๐Ÿ’š Pharmacists - prepare and dispense medication.
๐Ÿ’š Ward nurse - Caring and medicating the poorly inpatients.
๐Ÿ’š Nurse Clinics - our nurses do all the post operative checks, as well as Senior - Dental - Arthritic - Adolescence checks. And immunotherapy injections.
๐Ÿ’š Phlebotomist - taking the blood samples for in house and external testing.
๐Ÿ’š Radiologist - Positioning, taking and developing x-rays.
๐Ÿ’š The RVN qualification is by no means and easy qualification to gain and maintain their RVN status they have to complete 35 hours a year of certified CPD

๐ŸพThis is only a small mention of what our Nurses do day to day ๐Ÿ’š We are very fortunate to have a great team of skilled and professional Veterinary Nurses who ensure the practice runs smoothly and your pets are well cared for๐Ÿพ

We know that saying goodbye is one of the hardest moments youโ€™ll face as a pet owner. We have been busy creating a space at the practice that allows families to sit together, take your time, and say goodbye in a peaceful, private setting. We hope that this can make a difficult time just a little bit easier.

Last week Liz and Gemma were called to assist with an injured heron found at the high school. There was concern the young bird had broken his wing. On closer inspection no break was found, just a small wound on his wing. He was a bit underweight so he spent a couple of days being fed at Cuan Wildlife Rescue before being released back ๐Ÿ˜

Itโ€™s Veterinary Receptionist Week!
This week, weโ€™re celebrating the friendly faces who keep every vet practice running smoothly!

I think you will all agree that our reception team are amazing. From greeting you and your pets with a smile, managing the diary, answering the phones, ordering and preparing your pets medication, they are fantastic at supporting clients in all situations and organising the team of vets and nurses. So we believe vet receptionists are true multitasking heroes.

Thank you for everything you do ๐Ÿ’™

Here we have the wonderful Blitz.
Blitz absolutely loves coming to see us at the vets but has never been keen on his injections. This posed an issue originally as he had to start having a monthly injection to help with his arthritis and manage his pain. Gemma vet and his owner tried a different approach with Blitz, he loves his food, that was the key! He now is more than happy to have his monthly injection whilst he is munching on his licky mat ๐Ÿ’™
A perfect example of Camlas perfecting the fear free veterinary practice. ๐Ÿ’™
Permission to post from his humans.

๐Ÿšจโ€ผ๏ธIMPORTANT PET PASSPORT NEWS ๐Ÿšจโ€ผ๏ธ

From 22 April 2026, new EU rules will apply to pet travel.

An EU pet passport, issued to or held by a pet owner who is resident in GB, will no
longer be a valid document for travelling with pets from GB to the EU.

This applies to EU pet passports issued in an EU Member State or Northern Ireland, including those issued before 22 April 2026.

EU pet passports may only be issued to owners whose main residence is within the European Union.

All GB residents travelling to the EU with a pet dog, cat or ferret will need to obtain an
Animal Health Certificate (AHC) for travel from 22 April 2026.

There are no changes to GB entry requirements.

We have two qualified Official Veterinarians (OV) who can complete animal health certificates. Please contact the surgery if you require any further information
