That’s a wrap on the University of Lancashire x Medivet UK first ever Vet Summer School, and what an incredible week it was! 🎓🐾
This wasn’t just any summer school. It was a fully funded, purpose-driven programme, created to support young people from underrepresented backgrounds, giving them the opportunity to explore a career in veterinary medicine, build confidence, and get a real taste of university life.
Through hands-on clinical experience, expert coaching, and practical workshops, we gave aspiring future vets the chance to discover what it takes to thrive in veterinary school – and beyond.
Here’s a flavour of what the students got involved in:
🔬 Anatomy and clinical skills workshops
🐄 Animal handling, farm and equine tours at Myerscough
🧠 Coaching sessions and talks on resilience and self-care
📄 Personal statement support and mock MMIs
🚑 An introduction to the exciting and challenging world of emergency medicine
🏆 Wrapping the week up with an awards ceremony, quiz and pizza night
Throughout the week, students were supported by University of Lancashire lecturers, current vet students and Medivet professionals, to help them build confidence, develop key skills and explore what it takes to thrive in veterinary school and beyond!
We’re incredibly proud to have 100% funded this initiative as part of our ongoing commitment to widening participation and creating a more inclusive veterinary future.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in bringing this impactful week to life, and to the students: Your passion, energy and enthusiasm were truly inspiring. We can’t wait to see where your journey takes you.
