Prior to your first appointment, you will be asked which veterinary practice your animal is registered with and for your consent for me to contact them to gain their permission to treat your animal. Where your vet has referred your animal to me for rehabilitation and veterinary physiotherapy, this consent will already be in place for your first appointment. If your vet has not directly referred you to me for treatment, veterinary permission will need to be gained. Please note that if I am not granted permission by your vet then your animal cannot be treated. In this instance you will be advised as soon as possible.

As a therapist, I need to know your animal's background. The owner can often explain this however by liaising directly with the animal's own veterinary surgeon ensures all information communicated is clear and comprehensive. Vets are able to give this information by looking at the medical records held for your pet. I also find it helpful to establish a good working relationship with your vet, should the case require teamwork or further discussion.

There are occasions where I will refer clients back to their vet for further investigations. As a therapist, I am not allowed to diagnose a condition, only vets can do this. Once a confirmed diagnosis is made, I am then able to work with your vet to draw up a rehabilitation plan to get your horse or dog feeling like their self again.

I also work with peers and professionals such as farriers, nutritionists, dentists, trainers and behaviourists where required, to ensure the best possible outcome for your animal.

Don't worry- it's all about teamwork!. I'm here to support both you and your animal every step of the way. Working together with your veterinary team helps ensure the best possible care and outcomes. If you have any questions about the process, please feel free to get in touch.

Me when I realise I get to work with dogs and horses every day... 😁

Not every day is glamorous. There are muddy fields, wet dogs, early starts, and plenty of fur on my clothes.

But helping animals move more comfortably, recover from injury, build strength, and enjoy life a little more makes it all worth it.

Whether it's a horse feeling better under saddle, a dog getting back to their favourite walks, or seeing progress in the hydrotherapy unit, those little wins never get old.

I genuinely love what I do, and I'm grateful to every owner who trusts me to be part of their animal's journey 💚

Have you ever noticed your horse changing shape throughout the year?

Muscle development can change for lots of reasons - workload, fitness, time off, discomfort, saddle fit, rehab, or even changes in routine.

Sometimes the changes are subtle:
• A dip in the topline
• Less muscle behind the shoulders
• One side developing differently to the other
• Tack fitting differently

Keeping track of these small changes can tell us a lot about how a horse is feeling and moving.

Physiotherapy can help support:
✔️ Comfort
✔️ Mobility
✔️ Muscle function
✔️ Rehabilitation
✔️ Performance maintenance
Mostly it can help you spot when your horse may have changed, sometimes seeing your horse daily means these changes can be very easily missed !

I would love to know:
What’s one thing you always notice first when your horse changes condition or fitness?

Saddle fit is about more than just the saddle itself.

A poorly fitting saddle can affect both horse and rider, contributing to:
• Muscle soreness and tension
• Restricted movement
• Behavioural changes or resistance
• Imbalance for the rider
• Reduced performance and comfort

And it’s not just the saddle to think about - saddle pads and cloths matter too. With so many options available, it can feel overwhelming, but generally a well-fitting breathable pad is a great choice for many horses.

The key is ensuring it fits correctly, doesn’t create pressure points, and works with the saddle rather than against it.

This is why having a good team around your horse is so important.
A saddle fitter, veterinary physiotherapist, vet, trainer, and other professionals all play a role in helping keep your horse comfortable, moving well, and performing happily.

Comfort should always come first !

Rehabilitation is never just about one treatment, one exercise or one person.
Successful rehab is a team effort - involving owners, vets, physiotherapists, farriers, trainers and everyone working together with the horse’s best interests at heart.

Rehabbing a horse takes patience, consistency and understanding. Progress is rarely completely linear, and sometimes the smallest improvements become the biggest milestones.

Supporting the whole horse throughout recovery is so important:

- Managing comfort and movement
- Rebuilding strength gradually
- Monitoring compensation patterns
- Adjusting workloads appropriately
- Providing mental stimulation and routine

Every horse responds differently, which is why tailored rehabilitation plans and good communication between the support team can make such a difference.

🐝 World Bee Day 💛

Working with horses and dogs, we spend so much of our time outdoors appreciating the countryside and the environments our animals live in.

Bees play a huge role in maintaining those healthy ecosystems - supporting wildflowers, hedgerows and natural grazing environments that benefit both wildlife and the animals we care for.

A few amazing bee facts:
🐝 Bees can visit thousands of flowers in a single day
🐝 There are over 250 species of bee in the UK
🐝 Pollinators are vital for biodiversity and healthy countryside habitats

Even small actions can help protect bees:
🌼 Plant pollinator-friendly flowers
🌼 Leave natural wild areas where possible
🌼 Avoid unnecessary pesticide use
🌼 Put out shallow water sources during warm weather

Little things can make a big difference to your dog’s health and comfort..🐶

As canine owners, we often focus on the obvious things -feeding and walking, but small daily habits can have a huge impact on your dog’s long-term mobility and wellbeing too.

A few simple ways to support your dog’s body:
🐶Maintain a healthy weight to reduce strain on joints
🐶 Use non-slip surfaces where possible, especially for older dogs
🐶Warm up gently before intense exercise or ball throwing
🐶Vary walks and enrichment to support both body and mind
🐶Keep nails well maintained, as long nails can affect posture and movement
🐶Choose treats wisely - healthy options like carrots can be great in moderation

Did you know repetitive high-impact activities, such as constant ball chasing, can sometimes place repeated strain on the same muscles and joints? Balance is key .. combining exercise with rest, enrichment and recovery is just as important.

Dogs are incredibly good at hiding discomfort, so subtle signs like slowing down, stiffness, reluctance to jump, changes in posture or behavioural changes can sometimes indicate they’re not feeling their best physically.

Preventative care matters just as much as treatment, but as always I am here to support you and your beloved canine

🥕 Carrots - healthy treat or too much of a good thing? 🐴🐶

Carrots are a favourite treat for many horses and dogs, and in moderation they can be a great addition to the diet. They’re naturally rich in:

Beta-carotene (Vitamin A)
Fibre
Antioxidants
Water content

For horses, carrots can be a tasty low-fat treat and are often useful for enrichment, training rewards or encouraging fussy eaters. However, because they contain natural sugars, they should still be fed in moderation, especially for horses prone to laminitis, EMS or weight issues.

For dogs, carrots can make a brilliant healthy snack alternative. Many dogs enjoy them raw for crunch or frozen in warmer weather. They’re low in calories and can even help support dental health through chewing.

A few things to remember:
▫ Always introduce new foods gradually
▫ Chop carrots appropriately to reduce choking risk
▫ Treats should only make up a small percentage of the daily diet
▫ Not every animal tolerates the same foods equally

Sometimes the simplest treats are the ones our animals enjoy the most.
