This is Eight.
He lives in my bathroom and has chosen a quiet area next to my orchid as his refuge. Every day I leave a cotton swab soaked in water where he is: on the plant, behind the toilet, or near the sink cabinet. And he comes, gently, to drink.
My first reaction? I could take it away.
But why would I?
I didn't choose fear, or disgust. I chose respect.
Eight is tiny compared to me.
And yet, in the invisible web of natural balance, he matters.
He matters more than I can imagine.
Every creature, even the smallest, has a role.
Spiders, for example, keep other insects at bay, protecting plants and contributing to the health of the environments in which we live.
Nature does nothing randomly.
Every life form has a meaning, a purpose, a contribution.
Being kind to the smallest creatures is a powerful act.
I invite everyone to reflect on the language we use:
they are not "disgusting" or "useless."
They are part of this world, just like us.
