Apologies for the long post!
I just wanted to put out a post about cancelling walks/switching them to pop ins due to the hot weather. I never really thought I would have to make a post like this but I have had a client question my intentions so I just want to explain why I do not walk in hot weather to clear it up for anyone wondering why:
1. Your dogs welfare is my top priority, I would never ever want to put them at risk just for the sake of a walk and if I feel that it would put them at risk, I will cancel. I do not get paid if I don't do the walks, I have bills to pay, I cannot afford to cancel walks, yet I do because your dogs welfare is more important to me than the money.
2. If I took the dogs out and they got heatstroke, my insurance would not cover me as they would deem me negligible for taking them out in hot weather.
3. On some days I may be able to do earlier walks to avoid the heat but this is not always possible due to other walks/visits that I have booked in, however, I am always happy to do a pop in instead if I have to cancel the walks.
4. Puppies, elderly and brachycephalic dogs have a higher risk so that has to be taken into consideration too.
5. Please remember that what is cool for you, is not cool for the dogs, they have fur coats and cannot cool down as easily as us.
6. If I know your dog has struggled with a walk at a certain temp I'm not going to take them out when its hotter.
7. You may think I'm being overly cautious but I would rather be cautious than cause harm. As the saying goes "No dog has ever died from missing a walk".
