These 2 little dudes Nev & Beau came for a week of residential training.
Littermate Syndrome is a behavioral condition that can occur when two puppies from the same litter (or sometimes puppies of similar age) are raised together in the same household. While not every pair develops it, when it does happen, it can lead to severe behavioral and aggression issues as the dogs adult hormones begin to develop.
Aggression between littermates often begins & hierarchy disputes emerge, they start to challenge each other for dominance, toys, food, or attention.
One or both dogs become frustrated due to poor impulse control and anxiety from their unhealthy bond.
This all develops when two puppies bond too strongly with each other, rather than with their owners. This over-attachment can lead to:
Fear or anxiety when separated from each other
Poor socialization with people and other dogs
Delayed training progress (they “tune out” humans)
Aggression — toward each other & others
These 2 adorable little monkeys needed to be separated, trained & socialised independently, each little chap on his own is fabulous but together they are a wild tag team that make up their own rules and as we know, if you don’t give a dog a job you want him to have, he will invent his own job which you definitely won’t like!!!
This is only the start of their journey, 1 week certainly doesn’t “fix” them but it helps the process and jump starts their boundaries to ensure safety, progress and success around other dogs in public.
