A great day training at Solihull College today. We worked on problem solving some handler challenges as well as challenges for the dogs. Focussing on searching as a team and enabling the dogs to complete their role in the search.

Super teams who worked really hard, I hope the dogs have given you a bit of peace this evening.

💥 New guest trainer seminar 💥

I'm really excited to be hosting Paul Bunker of Chiron K9 for a seminar in February next year. I've had the pleasure of hearing Paul speak on multiple occasions and can't wait to train my own dogs with him on this seminar too.

Paul has a wealth of experience in the world of detection training and has carried out some truly fascinating work.
During the two days we will learn about some of Paul's projects, methodologies and carry out some practical training.

Handler spaces are full for this seminar. At the moment spectator spaces are also full, however once I've confirmed the venues I may have space for another couple of spectators.

The training during this week's detection workshop was tailored to the needs of the teams that were attending; which included indication progression, line handling - making sure the dogs can still work independently and searching out in the environment.

Here is Bob, a young lab, focussed purely on searching for his target odour, a quick release on the indication as our focus for this exercise was quality searching.

Looking forward to our next People Screening training day tomorrow, we will be progressing some of our newer teams as well as challenging our more experienced teams.

Here's a video from a previous training day of Gypsy working on her chase back commitment. She's a super girl who loves this game.

This training is all aimed at hobby/sport dogs.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of working with these great teams at a guest trainer day hosted by Chippers School for Dogs. Scentwork and Agility.
Thanks for inviting me Sarah Connatty it was great to see some familiar faces and meet some new teams too.
We had a mix of experience levels during this training day and a variety of areas to focus the training on to develop the teams.

On todays workshop the focus was training the skills for the Shooting Star Award.
The themes were-
Distraction Odours
Flat surface searching
Clearing the search

Some of the things we covered were; recognising if the dogs were effectively searching what was in front of them and building reliable searching, using a line to manage searching, what to do when the dogs are interested in distraction odours.

Some great teams today, well done everyone 👏🏼

It's taken a while to share photos from the last two Guest Trainer days for On Point Scentwork but here they are.
The venue was in an area with amazing views, and we were really lucky to have good weather both days. We were lucky to have access to an equestrian centre on a farm for the days training, which provided some interesting environmental challenges for the dogs plus the handlers had a day focussing on line handling, with all searches requiring the dogs to search on a line.

Today I instructed another Handler Influence training day. We looked at ways, as handlers we can positively influence our dogs and support them in the search as well as negatively influencing them and hindering the search.
Achieving an effective start to the search was our first focus moving onto looking at how powerful our body language and positioning can be throughout the search.
A great group of handlers who want to be the best they can be for their team. 💪🏻👏🏻

Last weekend I headed over to Norfolk for another weekend training the Clever Clicks crew. As part of the weekend training, I assessed some of the teams for the Scent Detectives Awards. There was a great standard of scent detection, credit to their instructor Helen Pye for helping prepare the teams.

Really well done everyone and huge congratulations to the teams who passed the assessments. 💪🏻🥂🎉

A really fun weekend with lots of laughs and learning with some super dogs and handlers.

Super Summer at last week's Skills workshop. 🤩

A training session working on individual needs for the teams, including; indication, environmental distractions, systematic searching and focus to search. Great work from all the teams and so nice to see the progression from the last session, definitely some homework training completed over the holidays 💪🏻
