đŸŸ Narla — taking human aggression training into the real world

Narla is a Cane Corso × German Shepherd who previously stayed with us for residential training to address human aggression.

With dogs like Narla, the work isn’t just about what happens inside the training room. The goal is to develop control, confidence and neutrality that carries over into everyday life.

In this video you’ll see Narla working through several stages of her training — starting with calm, structured walking, progressing into town around real-world distractions, and then finishing with focused obedience work back in the training room.

For a dog with a history of aggression towards people, being able to move through public environments without feeling the need to react, engage or make decisions for herself is a significant part of the process.

We worked on:
✅ Clear communication
✅ Reliable obedience
✅ Better engagement with the handler
✅ Calm behaviour around people
✅ Confidence without confrontation
✅ Neutrality in everyday environments

A good example of how behaviour modification needs to transfer beyond the training room and into real life.

☕ Molly — learning to switch off in the real world

Molly, the German Wirehaired Pointer, came to us with a number of challenges:

đŸŸ Over-reacting to people and other dogs
đŸŸ Poor lead manners, pulling and jumping
đŸŸ Little to no reliable recall
đŸŸ Separation anxiety

For a dog who finds people, dogs and busy environments difficult, learning to simply settle and do nothing is an important part of the training.

This video shows Molly relaxing in a coffee shop — people moving around, noises, smells and plenty happening around her, but she’s learning that she doesn’t need to react or get involved.

This is what we want: calm, neutral behaviour that can transfer into everyday life with her owners.

🌊 Scooby the Great Dane — training doesn’t always have to look like training! đŸŸ

Scooby has been enjoying some time on the beach, having fun and exploring, but there’s an important training goal behind the trip too.

One of the areas we’re working on during his residential training is his anxiety and nervousness in busy public places.

The beach gives us a great opportunity to expose Scooby to people, dogs, movement, noise and lots of different things going on around him — while still allowing him to relax, explore and enjoy himself.

For a dog that finds busy environments overwhelming, progress isn’t about forcing interaction. It’s about building confidence, creating positive experiences and teaching him that he can remain calm and comfortable while the world carries on around him.

And judging by Scooby enjoying himself on the beach, training days can be pretty good fun too! 🌊🐕‍đŸŠș

Welcome back, Scooby! đŸŸ

We’re delighted to welcome Scooby the Great Dane back to Liberty K9 Training.

Scooby first stayed with us when he was just 5 months old. At that stage our focus was on building confidence, improving his lead walking and giving him the foundations every young dog needs. He was very nervous and hadn’t been walked beyond his own street.

Fast forward several months, and Scooby has entered adolescence. This is a stage where many owners feel like all of their training has disappeared—but that’s rarely the case.

As dogs mature, hormones, confidence, independence and environmental awareness all increase. Behaviours that weren’t present as puppies can suddenly appear, and dogs begin to test boundaries, become more interested in distractions and make more independent decisions. This is completely normal, but it also means training needs to evolve with the dog.

Scooby has returned to us to work on:
✅ Separation anxiety
✅ Loose lead walking
✅ Reliable recall
✅ Happily returning to his crate (his owners’ biggest concern)
✅ Settling calmly in places such as coffee shops
✅ Reducing window barking
✅ Managing his strong prey drive around the family cat
✅ Addressing low-level resource guarding
✅ Preventing him running through open doors

The really encouraging news is that the bedding issue we resolved during his previous stay has stayed resolved, showing that the foundations we built together have lasted.

We’re looking forward to helping Scooby through this next stage of his development and showing that adolescence isn’t something to fear—it’s simply another stage of training.

Follow his journey over the coming weeks.

Training dogs is what I do. But days like this are what it’s all about.

A rare day off spent on the beach with my girls and the dogs. No training plans, no competitions, no schedules
just sunshine, fresh air, plenty of laughs, and making memories.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is switch off for a few hours, recharge, and enjoy the simple things. Then it’s back to doing what I love.

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer and finding a little time to do the same.

Proof, not promises.

One of the biggest goals in puppy training isn’t simply teaching a behaviour—it’s building the understanding and confidence for the puppy to maintain it, even when you’re not there.

In this video, Luna is working on her place exercise. I leave her on her bed, walk completely out of the training room, and film her through the window to show that she remains calm, settled and committed to the behaviour without constant supervision.

This type of stability doesn’t happen by accident. It comes from carefully structured training that builds clarity, confidence and self-control.

Luna is making fantastic progress during her two-week Puppy Foundation Programme, and this is another important step towards becoming a calm, well-mannered companion both at home and out in the real world.

If you’d like your puppy to develop the same foundations, get in touch through our website.

After an excellent week hosting our latest NePoPo¼ Gold School, this week we’re straight back onto the training field for our IGP Summer Camp.

The focus is simple: tracking, obedience and protection.

This isn’t about just running routines. It’s about breaking each exercise down into its individual components, analysing the finer details, solving problems, and rebuilding exercises to produce stronger, more reliable performances.

Whether it’s improving tracking accuracy, sharpening obedience or developing better protection work, every session has a clear objective. The small details are often what separate good performances from exceptional ones, and that’s exactly what we’re working on this week.

It’s always a pleasure to train alongside handlers who are committed to continually improving themselves and their dogs. Looking forward to another productive week and sharing plenty of photos and videos over the coming days.

Another NePoPoÂź Gold School Complete!

Yesterday we wrapped up another fantastic NePoPoÂź Gold School, delivered by Paul Flanagan and proudly hosted by Liberty K9 Training.

Over five intensive days, we focused on developing a deeper understanding of the NePoPoÂź system, refining timing, communication, problem-solving and the practical application of the principles across a wide range of training scenarios. The commitment, focus and work ethic shown throughout the course were outstanding.

A huge congratulations to Karl Morris and Lou Fields, who successfully completed the Gold School. It was a pleasure working with both of you, and I look forward to seeing how you continue to develop and apply what you’ve learned.

For me, teaching these schools is always a privilege. After nearly 20 years working with the NePoPo¼ system, I’ve seen first-hand how it can transform both competitive dog training and the training of everyday family dogs. Passing that knowledge on and helping other trainers improve is something I genuinely enjoy.

There will be another NePoPo¼ Gold School later this year, so if you’ve already completed Silver and would like to take the next step, keep an eye on the Liberty K9 Training page for details.

Luna and Kurt are both with us for our two-week Puppy Foundation Programme, and they are making excellent progress.

Both puppies arrived very keen to greet every person and dog they saw, making calm, focused walks difficult. They are now walking together through town on loose leads and are much more settled around everyday distractions.

The goal is not to stop them enjoying people or other dogs, but to teach them that they can remain calm, neutral and connected to their handler.

Great work from both puppies. đŸŸ

Our latest NePoPoÂź Gold School has officially started!

We now have five intensive days and 40 hours of deep practice ahead of us, developing a deeper understanding of the practical application of the NePoPoÂź training system.

Gold School is available exclusively to trainers who have successfully completed Silver School. It takes that previous learning to the next level through practical training, detailed problem-solving and the application of the system across different dogs and training challenges.

All our Gold School are taught by Paul Flanagan the owner of Liberty k9 Training Ltd. Paul has been using NePoPoÂź for almost 20 years. It has played a major role in the results he has achieved in IGP, including competing successfully at world-championship level.

It has also had a huge influence on the work he does through Liberty K9 Training—helping train dogs more effectively and solve complex issues with difficult dogs.

Paul is looking forward to an intensive and productive week with everyone attending our latest Gold School.

Let the deep practice begin.
