URGENT - Whippet Rescue UK "The West Midlands 5" - available for Adoption.

We are well known for rehoming pairs of Whippets/Lurchers, We have also rehomed Triplets, a few Quadruplets and 1 set off Quintuplets that were 5 feathered Salukis!

The present economic climate doesn't provide for Rehoming Quintuplets, but we would welcome applications from anyone who might be in a position to provide a home for The West Midlands Five, who were originally 7.

It is highly probably that we will separate them into pairs; we have already undertaken a lengthy assessment of them and know which ones are more friendly with others.

The 5th Man so to speak is a lady Whippet who has Myostatin Deficiency (Bully Whippet Syndrome) who will need a specialist home, possibly with another dog with a disabling health condition, preferably here in Cheshire where there are a number of specialists Vets. She isn't seen in the photo because she spent much of her time in the basket or on the lap of her former owner.

The West Midlands 5 (originally 7) are made up of Whippets and small Longdogs aged between 2 and 6 years old. All are ladies with the exception of one, who is a young 2 year old Longdog, slightly bigger than the rest, who may benefit from a Lurcher companion of similar age.

They are all in good health etc and are well socialised with other Dogs and are used to young children, none of them are cat or small furry friendly.

One of their owners sadly passed unexpectedly at the end of last year. We will always try to retain Dogs in their existing home with an owner, particularly in cases where one is suffering from the bereavement of their partner. Sadly, on this occasion, due to deteriorating health conditions of the surviving partner, it isn't working and the West Midlands 5 aren't getting the walks/exercise that they were accustomed to.

As you can see from the photograph, their late owner had a number of health conditions that limited his mobility. The West Midlands 5 were trained to walk alongside his mobility scooter, and we will be giving priority to applicants, who like him, are dependent on them.

All applications need to be made by email to the address below. Our initial application process is undertaken by telephone, so please ensure that you include your full name/s, telephone number/s address in the email together with a brief outline of your home/work life balance, family commitments and breeds and ages of all other Pets.

Whippet Rescue UK "The Wigan 2" - 6 year and 4 year old male Whippet and Longdog available for Adoption.

Nothing is ever black and white when assessing Dogs. The process is lengthy and thorough and for good reason;, our objective is to find Adopters with whom the Dogs will stay with for the remainder of their lives.

Though we are regularly told otherwise and complimented, we take the view that no Dog is perfect and no home or Adopter is perfect for any particular Dog.

Stage 3 of the Assessment for The Wigan 2, is taking place tomorrow (Tuesday 13th May 2025) and we anticipate that veterinary treatment recommended may prove to be costly!

Whippet Rescue UK "Harley"

Harley is one of 2 Strays from 2 separate Councils in the Home Counties who were transferred to us last week. Harley adoption is proceeding, the other Dog is still under assessment.

The Donation of £350.00 that we ask for each Dog has never covered the combined Veterinary and overhead costs apportioned to each Dog. None of our officials or volunteers receive a salary, with the exception of one or two, the majority of our volunteers have willingly financed their own expenses, such as petrol.

Harley's actual Veterinary costs that includes, health check, vaccinations, flea and worm treatment, Microchipping and neutering amounts to £550.00. Whilst we have previously been in a position to reconcile the difference through our reserve funds, these were depleted by the number of welfare cases that we took into our care during and post the Pandemic. Any donations that can be made to help us build up our reserve funds and finance the cost of Veterinary treatment are gratefully received and can be made directly to the link below.

URGENT - Whippet Rescue UK "Mr Lincoln" - Lincolnshire and surrounding Counties

Mr Lincoln is a victim of Domestic Violence and requires a Respite Care placement whilst his owner finds alternative accommodation for themself and Mr Lincoln.

Mr Lincoln is a 3/4 year old neutered Whippet x who is in good health. He is well socialised with other Dogs and is regularly walked with others. Mr Lincoln has always lived as an only dog; he is not cat or small furry friendly and needs an adult only home, with a couple or a singleton.

Once again, we are used to dealing with domestic violence cases hence we anticipate that Mr Lincoln will require a Respite Care home for at least 4 months. Foster Carers must be able to commit to longer if necessary and to maintaining contact by video link with his owner. Mr Lincoln's Veterinary, Feed and Insurance costs will be maintained by his owner.

All applications must be made by email to the address and should include your full name/s address and telephone number in order that we can contact you.

UPDATE - Thank you everybody for helping arrangements are in hand for Flynn, the family have made provisions for Flynn and Fluff The Teddy

11 year old Flynn is in URGENT need of respite care and an adoptive home, ideally, within an hours drive (50 miles) of Kettering.

Flynn's lifelong companion is terminally ill and Hospice Care is currently being arranged. Flynn is currently in Kennels, sadly, due to work commitments and other Dogs that are too big and boisterous for Flynn, none of the immediate family can care for and provide Flynn with a permanent home.

Flynn is in good health and enjoys 2 x 30 minutes walk per day and enjoys runs in a secure field a couple of times per week. Flynn is not Cat friendly, he has a high prey drive. Flynn is well socialised with other Dogs and may well benefit from a Whippet Companion of similar age. However, he is used to living in quiet home with a retired couple which is exactly what we are seeking for him!

Flynn's Veterinary and Feeding costs will be sponsored by the family. We are used to dealing with Respite Care cases, particularly those concerning end of life. Where possible it would be beneficial to Flynn's current owner if the Foster Carers/Adopters could physically take Flynn to visit her once a week, hence the reason why we have asked for homes within an hours drive of Kettering. However, we will consider applicants from further afield who are willing to maintain contact by video link.

All enquiries must be made by email to the address below. Please ensure that you include your full name/s, address and telephone number/s in order that we can contact you by telephone.

UPDATE - Whippet Rescue UK "Neo & Sheru"

They are safe and well in Goostrey, Cheshire, having arrived at around 2.30 pm today (Sunday 2nd March 2025). They will remain here until a new permanent home can be found for them together.

As you can see from the photographs, they are very ordinary Whippets! Their rehoming requirements will need to be slightly adjusted to include homes with a very large Sofa.

Please see updated Post - Sunday 2nd March 2025
URGENT - BY SUNDAY 2ND March 2025 - Whippet Rescue UK "Neo & Sheru" bonded pair 6/7 year old large Whippets.

Following the tragic and fatal accident of one of their Adopters on Sunday 16th February, we have worked tirelessly over the past 11 days to secure either a temporary or permanent home for Neo & Sheru, the latter is in their interests.

We are not alone, all Rescues are currently struggling to find homes for Dogs; unfortunately the cost of living crisis has meant that there aren't as many homes available, particularly for pairs, bigger dogs and those with behavioural problems, even minor ones.

The whole village has fallen in love with Neo and Sheru, sadly no one in the area is in a position to offer them a home because they already have Dogs and Cats.

We have a Kennel space for them, however, that isn't going to be in their interests because having witnessed the tragedy, both are now suffering from stress and exhibiting signs of Separation Anxiety. Sadly, Neo's reactivity to other Dogs that had been improving with a Behaviourist's positive reinforcement training plan has deteriorated. Hence a Kennel environment with other Dogs is going to result in him becoming more anxious.

Neo & Sheru desperately need a Dog and Cat, free home with Adopters or Foster Carers who are either retired or work from home. The Adopters need to be a couple; Neo & Sheru are large Whippets, 21/22 tts and 20 & 22 Kgs, due to Neo's reactivity towards other Dogs and his tendency to redirect his anxiousness onto Sheru, it is in the interests of safety that they are walked alongside each other by two separate handlers.

With regard to children, Neo & Sheru's contact with children had been non-existent in their previous home but they have engaged well with visiting children who are "dog savvy" in their current home who they have been gentle and accepting of. However, given their present anxiousness, we would have reservations about placing them in a home with small young children.

On the positive side, Neo's reactivity had improved significantly; it wasn't and currently still isn't as bad as the the reactivity that we have seen in other Dogs. Whilst we will have Neo & Sheru reviewed by a Behaviouralist, we anticipate that Neo's reactivity can be easily managed by confident, experienced handlers and that it will improve again when he has certainty of his surroundings and handler/s. As a pair, Neo & Sheru, had begun to engage more with each other. Play, both inside and outside of their previous home had been limited due to it being small. Neo & Sheru, do have some recall, however, off lead exercise would need to be restricted to either a garden or secure field. Both Neo & Sheru are extremely loving Dogs and they are both strikingly beautiful. Neo is the more anxious of the pair, Sheru, is usually very chilled. At present, both Neo & Sheru are exhibiting signs of severe stress and we anticipate that they may need to placed on a Veterinary prescribed course of anti-anxiety medication that will be funded by Whippet Rescue UK.

Neo & Sheru are just north of Lancaster, Lancashire, whilst we will consider offers of homes from anyway in the UK, they aren't used to long distance travel, whilst Neo had been improving his anxiousness leads to him suffering from travel sickness, hence it would be kinder to him if offers could be restricted to within an hours drive of Lancaster, which incorporates the whole of the North West of England.

If you believe that you can offer Neo & Sheru a home then please either email or text your full name/s, address together with a brief outline of your home/work life balance.
