🎥 Highlights from BVA Live 2026

This year marked an exciting milestone as we showcased the full Zoetis and VPG diagnostic offering together for the first time.

Across two busy days, we had the opportunity to connect with veterinary professionals from across the UK, discuss the evolving diagnostic landscape, and demonstrate how our integrated services can help practices make faster, more informed clinical decisions.

Thank you to everyone who visited the stand, attended our sessions, and shared their experiences with us. We look forward to continuing the conversation.

🐱 Not every lump is a tumour. And not every tumour is malignant.

A review of nearly 10,000 feline masses found an almost 50:50 split between benign and malignant neoplastic lesions.

🔬 9,683 masses analysed
📊 89 different diagnoses
⚠️ 6.6% were non-neoplastic

From basal cell tumours and soft tissue sarcomas to infections and cysts, appearances can be deceiving.

Swipe through for a quick reference guide to the most common feline "lumps and bumps" and why further diagnostics matter. ➡️

A chromatophoroma from a bearded dragon, showing beautifully reflective pigment-filled cells on cytology. These tumours arise from pigment-producing cells and can create some incredibly striking microscopic appearances.

🧫 Not getting the answers you need from your cytology samples?

In episode three, we focus on improving diagnostic yield, sharing practical tips on sampling technique, slide handling, and common factors that can impact cytology results. Small changes can make a big difference when it comes to getting the most from every case.

Developed in collaboration with IVC Evidensia UK, this series has explored practical ways to support high-quality cytology in practice.

Thank you for following along with the series. We hope you’ve found the tips and insights helpful.

🔬 Not everything that looks dramatic is sinister.

These striking cytology images show a follicular cyst – a common, non-neoplastic lesion.

What you’re seeing:
• Abundant keratin flakes
• Occasional neutrophilic inflammation

On aspiration, these lesions often yield a characteristic ‘caseous’ (cheesy) material.

Most frequently seen in dogs (less so in cats), and the good news?
✔️ Surgical removal is typically curative

A great reminder of how cytology can quickly guide confident clinical decisions.

🧫 Better staining. Better clarity.

We’ve teamed up with IVC Evidensia UK for Episode 2 of our Lumps & Bumps series, sharing practical guidance on staining cytology smears to improve consistency and slide quality in practice.

Small refinements can make a big difference to what you see under the microscope.

A look behind the scenes at our recent VPG Pathology Team event in Bristol.

From sharing updates across disciplines to exploring AI developments and molecular testing, the day brought our teams together to collaborate, learn and align.

And of course, a bit of fun along the way.

At VPG, it’s the people behind the pathology that make the difference.

Missed our recent FGESF webinar? You can now watch it on demand.

Feline gastrointestinal eosinophilic sclerosing fibroplasia remains a key differential for abdominal masses, but it can still be easily mistaken for other conditions.

In this session, Melanie Dobromylskyj revisits FGESF 16 years on, sharing practical insights to support diagnosis in practice.

🔬 Clinical presentation
🧫 Histopathological features
🧠 Key differentials including lymphoma
📊 Retrospective case insights
📌 Practical takeaways for clinicians

Love is in the air… and apparently on our slides too.

This heart-shaped find appeared on a cytology slide in the lab this week and felt it was only right to share. A small reminder that even on the busiest diagnostic days, we still spot the unexpected.

Happy Valentine’s Day from the team at VPG!
