URGENT FOSTER FOR A POOR OLD BLIND DOG THAT HAS BEEN INAPPROPRIATELY HOMED...PLEASE READ, COPIED FROM Jacqui Honour POST
🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘
Good morning everybody I really need everyone’s help with this.
You may have seen a short post that I put up recently about a nine-year-old Romanian Rescue dog who is blind currently in the UK who urgently needs a new Foster placement?
This particular situation is very long-winded and the whole situation was extremely badly handled from the start and it would take a good deal of time to explain everything in detail and time is something this poor boy doesn’t have.
This dog is not my responsibility, this dog did not come from me, I have no experience of the Romanian rescuer and I do not know or I did not know the so-called UK rescuer, but I was asked by a friend if I could try and help.
Basically, this dog was inappropriately rehomed and now everybody is trying to blame everybody else and wash their hands of any responsibility for this placement.
So I’ll set out some of the main issues here.
This boy was transported to the home of the adopter on the same transport, at the same time as a puppy going to this home from the same shelter .. however these dogs had never met each other until they rocked up on the doorstep of the adopters home 😡
An altercation between the two dogs ensued for obvious reasons and I shouldn’t really have to explain it to those who understand and since then, which is approximately eight weeks ago the adopter has been asking the Uk rescue involved to remove the blind dog because she is out of her depth with the situation.
The dog at the moment is being labelled a biter and apparently BDRUK have said they cannot take him due to this “bite status” but have also confirmed on this post that they have no dog free or cat free Fosters around and like everybody at the moment finding any good Foster space is so very difficult … but having listened to details of the ‘incidents’ this poor nine-year-old blind dog who was being housed in a kennel by himself in Romania and then thrust into a home with a puppy he had never met and three cats despite not being cat tested and an adopter that has never owned her own dog before .. is basically scared sh*tless !!
The bite incidents which I hesitate to call true bite incidents were a result of a very confused blind dog giving warnings to the situation he found himself in. 😢
There has been no actual injury to anyone involved, on both occasions this dog who virtually has no teeth has put his mouth around someone’s arm when faced with something he can’t see to understand and I genuinely believe that with the right home and environment that this boy will be fine.
The Romanian Rescuer has told me that this boy was never an issue at the Shelter and has never bitten or attempted to bite whilst there.
There is a lot to this story that is just the worst part of Rescue with people that did not carry out due diligence when placing this dog, but at the moment what needs to be dealt with is a suitable placement for him.
I haven’t actually met this dog but I have had more than one chat with the adopter and I would say that this boy needs a quiet home, adult only, no cats.
I am hesitant to say no other dogs, because I think potentially with a calm older dog and the facility to introduce the dogs carefully and slowly and have the facility to keep them separated whilst the introductions over time are carried out, that this boy may be okay, but that would need to be someone experienced and committed ..
But I guess at the moment a dog free quiet, adult only experienced, calm and committed Foster or adopter would be his best option.
As I say, there is a lot more to this story showing massive gaps in a rehoming process that failed him every step of the way, but I’d rather not go into that at the moment because the priority is to find somewhere for this poor dog to go.
The situation at the moment is not ideal for either dog or in fact the family as there is now a teenage child who is terrified of this dog and an inexperienced adopter who is totally overwhelmed …
So please, please share this post as much as possible.
If there are any rescues who would be willing to take this dog under their wing and offer him Rescue back up which he basically doesn’t have now or a committed, experienced home that will need to be thoroughly home checked and can offer him a safe place please get in touch.
Unfortunately, you will have to contact me because the relationship between the UK Rescue and the adopter has broken down irretrievably.
This is really urgent now because this has been dragging on for eight weeks and the adopter is no longer able to continue with this poor dog in the home 😢😢😢😢😢😢
The other thing I do need to mention is if a solution is not found soon this poor boy will be returned to Romania to live the rest of his life out in solitary confinement in a kennel, so please if you can’t help share to everybody you can possibly think of that may be able to help, this boy does not deserve this 😢😢😢😢😢
