I am so very proud of my heritage xx

I am a True Cockney, I was born within the sound of Bow Bells at Barts Hospital in the City of London so Happy St George's Day !!!

Tonight I knocked up a traditional Paella, I miss my family home in Menorca - the place where I feel closest to my mum and dad - so today I celebrate my fusion of where I belong and who I am ❤️

Beautiful ramsons are filling the air with their distinctive ‘wild garlic‘ scent in Epping Forest just now.

Please do not pick the ramsons, but leave them where you find them, for the wildlife to benefit from and for other visitors to enjoy. It is against the byelaws to take them from this protected ancient woodland.

Thank you for helping us to take care of London’s great Forest!

🐣🐰HAPPY EASTER FROM ALL OF US AT DOG FIRST AID 🐰🐣

Here’s a last reminder of the dog related Easter dangers to make sure your fluffy friends are safe this Easter

CHOCOLATE 🍫
Over the Easter weekend, many of us host Easter egg hunts or exchange chocolate Easter eggs that are brightly coloured. These will look interesting and smell delicious to your dog. Chocolate is poisonous to dogs, so please ensure you keep it well out of reach. If you find your dog has eaten some chocolate, you may need to make an emergency trip to the vet.

HOT CROSS BUNS 🍞
Hot cross buns contain sultanas or raisins. Much like chocolate, sultanas, currants, raisins and grapes are also poisonous to dogs. Even a single raisin can cause kidney failure. If your dog eats a hot cross bun, please seek veterinary advice.

ROAST DINNERS 🍗
Although many of us enjoy a traditional roast dinner at Easter, some ingredients served up with a roast dinner aren’t safe for your dog to eat and can cause abdominal pain. Small bones are also dangerous for your dog. Please continue to feed your dog their normal diet. If you want to treat your dog, we recommend you feed them raw carrots.

SPRING FLOWERS 🌷
Easter is the perfect time of year to brighten up homes and gardens with spring flowers and are therefore common gifts from family and friends at Eastertime. Unfortunately, spring blooms can be toxic for dogs if consumed, so it’s important to make sure your dog can’t access these specific areas of your garden. Here are six common springtime bulbs that can be dangerous to dogs.
• Bluebells • Daffodils • Hyacinth • Iris • Lilies • Tulips

WATCH OUT FOR WRAPPERS 🍬
Always make sure that plastic wrappers and other packaging is thrown, recycled or moved to a safe place out of your dog’s reach. If a dog was to chew or try to eat the packaging it could cause an obstruction to their airway or internally after digestion.

Chocolate poisoning is particularly common at this time of year, especially with the large amounts of Easter eggs that may be around your home.

It’s essential to take proactive steps to ensure your dog’s safety around chocolate:

1️⃣ Keep all chocolate out of reach: Make sure that all chocolate products are securely stored in places where your dog cannot access them.
2️⃣ Avoid involving your dog in Easter egg hunts. Keep your dog away from the hunt area and thoroughly check that all chocolate eggs have been found.
3️⃣ Resist the temptation to share chocolate with your dog: Despite their pleading eyes, refrain from feeding your dog any chocolate, as it can be harmful to their health.
4️⃣ Consider homemade dog treats: Treat your dog to homemade treats using safe ingredients.

Dogs with chocolate poisoning may initially be sick, have stomach pain or an upset stomach. If enough chocolate is eaten then the effects can be severe or even fatal.

Additionally, be mindful of chocolate foil wrappers, as they can cause obstructions if ingested. Signs of obstruction may include vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite, constipation, or difficulty passing stool.

⚠️If you notice any of these symptoms, seek veterinary attention promptly to ensure your dog’s well-being⚠️

Hot cross buns which contain dried fruit, such as currants, sultanas and raisins, are all toxic to dogs. Even if your dog eats a small quantity of these dried fruits (and grapes), they can suffer severe kidney failure which may be fatal.

Scientists do not fully understand what it is in raisins, grapes and sultanas that makes them toxic to dogs. Some pets have ingested large quantities and felt no effects, but others – including large breeds – have died after eating just a few raisins.

Sharing just a little bit with your dog is not worth the risk of losing your animal companion. Keep hot cross buns out of reach altogether.

On top of this, nutmeg, which is a common ingredient in hot cross buns, is also potentially dangerous due to it containing a hallucinogenic toxin called myristicin, which can cause mild stomach upset if eaten in small doses. Dogs who eat large amounts of nutmeg may suffer more severe symptoms such as increased heart rate, disorientation, abdominal pain, hallucinations and even seizures. Symptoms can last up to 48 hours.

If you think your dog has eaten something poisonous, contact your vet straight away !

🐣It's Good Friday!🐣

Easter wouldn’t be complete without lots of chocolate. This of course means an increase in cases of accidental ingestion in pets, particularly dogs.

The Animal PoisonLine and Veterinary Poisons Information Service see a huge increase in call numbers relating to chocolate at this time of year. Chocolate contains two related chemicals that can be toxic to pets - theobromine and caffeine. The amount of caffeine and theobromine in products will vary due to natural differences in cocoa beans and the formulation of the products.

Common signs associated with large consumption of chocolate in animals include vomiting (in animals that can), diarrhoea, hyperactivity and restlessness, increased thirst, increased heart rate and tremors.

Although chocolate poisoning is very common in pets (especially dogs!) and frequently makes them ill, fatal cases are rare.

April is National Dog First Aid Awareness Month! ❤️‍🩹

A PDSA survey revealed that 90% of pet parents have no basic first aid skills. Being clued-up on first aid could help save your pet’s life in an emergency 🚨

So here are some tips on what to do if your dog was in a Road Traffic Accident! 🚙

REMEMBER! If your pet is involved in a road traffic accident, stay calm. This will help reassure your pet and allow you to make rational decisions.
