Ra is a raggedy black cat seeking a new home. He is a complex fellow, because he has had a complex life. He has remained living in the urban garden where he was born, six years ago. Relying on the home owner for food, he has never had to hunt for his living.

He is not domesticated. He will allow a little touch, but is as likely to swipe as to run away. The reason for relocating him is that he has never got on with the home owners own cat. Having recently been neutered, he has gone from attacking the other cat, to trying to be friends - neither are welcome.

Ra needs a home that is not in Newton Stewart, otherwise he is likely to find his way back to where he came from. He will probably be best suited to a village home. He is used to being independent, so he doesn't need you to be home all of the time. He is not suited to a family, or to a home with dogs. Being the only cat would be preferable. He needs a home where he is welcome indoors, but has access to the outdoors; where he is welcome despite not being keen to be a pet, but where it is ok for him to decide he does want to be a pet after all. Most of all he needs a human that will love him unconditionally. He's 6 years old, let's make the rest of his life much happier and more stable.

This is a home to home relocation. Ra is not in the care of CP.

(This picture is not of Ra, but of a similar cat, because Ra is camera shy)!

Escaped outside vets

UPDATE 29.6.25- good news for this young mum. A volunteer managed to find her and catch her this evening. She is now back with her kittens, recovering from her ordeal.

Please keep your eyes out for this black female cat, who managed to escape her cat carrier just as she was being taken to the vets.

This was outside Academy vets in Academy Street, Stranraer, Friday afternoon. She was last spotted at the back of the carpet shop.

She has had kittens in the last 6 weeks.

If you think you have seen her in or around the Academy Street area please let us know asap with a time and exact location.

MISSING FOR 8 MONTHS

This is Dingo and he escaped, along with his brother, from a cattery just 3 miles north of Castle Douglas, 8 months ago.
His brother was found in a small woodland near by, but Dingo remains missing.

Searches have been done and people are watching out for him. But we would like to refresh minds and ask people to keep an eye out around Castle Douglas and surrounding areas.
He could have travelled himself, so consider Cross Michael, Kirkpatrick Durham, Dalbeattie and Gelston for example.

Dingbro is a grey cat, almost tabby markings around his tail. He is neutered and will have a chip number if scanned, although there were some issues with the details registering.

His owner has not yet given up hope. So if you see a grey, male cat looking lost in this huge area of The Stewartry, please get in touch.

Please share to friends and sites in the CD area.

Is this your cat?

This tom cat has been making a nuisance of himself over the last several months.
He is wandering around the Dickshill area of Stranraer.
He is always hungry, not very well kept, stresses residents cats and sprays in other people's homes.
Neutering him would stop all this!!!!?😡
But once again, we have a reasonably young cat out on the street, not neutered and taking up charities recourses to sort out an issue.

Whilst cats have the right to roam and display natural behaviour, if they cause damage to other people's property or pets becoming a nuisance, then the owner could be liable to cover the costs of repair and vet bills.
It has been reported to us that this boy is causing a nuisance and has caused damage in a residents home.
If you are the owner or know the owner, please PM us so we can help you resolve this issue, before Citizens Advice are consulted.

Please, please get your cats neutered, it's the kindest thing you can do for the pet you have chosen to take on.

Seeking an owner for this female cat

This very young black cat was found giving birth to kittens under a residents decking 2 days ago.
It was found in the Ashwood Drive area of Stranraer.
We are keen to locate it's owner.
The cat is young, female, all black except for a dash of white on its chest.

If you are missing such a cat, please get in touch. The young family are attending the vets this am.
Proof of ownership will be asked for and confirmed, before we will hand this cat back.

This is the second very young female found in this area recently, out in gardens giving birth to kittens.

Getting a kitten is easy, offering it responsible pet ownership gets a bit more of a commitment and a lot of pet owners give up at this point. We then get asked to pick the pieces up. But sadly, the demand being put on us in certain small pockets of Wigtownshire are beyond what Cats Protection and the SSPCA combined can deal with. More and more un neutered cats are roaming the streets and breeding.
We urge owners to neuter their cats from 4 months of age to prevent the huge numbers of unwanted cats being abandoned on the streets.
You'll find homes for kittens every day of the week, but most of these homes will not be a life long commitment and far too often we see very young cats left out, not neutered and not cared for.

We offer a neutering scheme for owned cats. It's very generous and leaves no excuses for owners saying they can't afford it.
