Today we went on a bit of an adventure.

Being relatively new to Ripon, I’m still searching for good walking spots. I’ve a couple of pups in Dishforth but not aware of any woodland areas nearby.

So, last night I thought I’d found the perfect little spot about 15 minutes drive from my last pick up. I plonked my dot on the map and off we pootled…to find it was a private woodland and no access 😩 back to the map….spotted another not too far away. Opened up OS maps and saw it had public bridleways ✔️ opened google earth and had a little walk via street view and found parking spot with dog p**p bin ✔️ ✔️ pulled up, got my gear on and got chatting to a lovely farmer who pretty much invited me to use his land - how kind?! He also also has a litter of working springers he’s looking for good pet/working homes.

Eventually we set off walking and we will most definitely go back! All under shade with a little beck nearby - it was such a lovely, cool walk and reminded me of our rambles through Esholt ☺️

As the weather gets hotter, it’s so important to keep our fur babies safe!

Here’s some information to help keep your dog(s) safe over summer and through the heatwaves.

How do we keep Willow cool?

In house we have fans circulating the air and have frozen treats and ice cubes at the ready. We don’t walk her through the height of the heat, instead we play brain games indoors - she’s currently learning left & right. She also has a paddling pool and sand pit set up in the shade.

Some fun games to try:
- search & sniff. Hide kibble/treats around the house for your dog to find. Take it up a notch - rub a piece of cloth/sock in their treat, hide the sock (in plain sight at first so it’s easy for your dog to know what the game is) say “find it” and when they find/retrieve, praise and give the treat.
- sniffy box. Use an old cardboard box and lots of paper/empty loo roll tubes. Hide kibble/treats in schrunched up paper/tubes and scrunch up the rest. Fill the box with all the paper for your pooch to snuffle through and search out their treats.
- teach a new trick. Whether that’s hand touches, spin/twist, paw, directionals. Even opening/closing cupboard doors or putting their toys away. There are some great tricks your dog can learn at any age (feel free to ask for more details/how to’s!)

Also remember to make sure any outdoor animals (rabbit/Guinea pigs etc) aren’t overheating. Ensure their enclosure is in a shady spot and you could offer their fruit/veggies in a shallow bowl of water giving them the option to wet their feet/paddle if they wish.

It’s always sad to learn of a pet passing away and this little guy will surely be missed.

His distinctive meow, Velcro snuggles and little escapades (to neighbours houses for more food….then ending up at Bishopton Veterinary Group because the neighbours thought he was a stray….nope just very old, well loved boy with a ravenous appetite 😂)

Todays walk with Eden, Scout and Willow was a lovely until the sun burnt through the clouds and I quickly realised how exposed we were!

We made it back to the shade of the trees where we enjoyed refreshments and snuggles.

We also met the lovely Amanda - a local dog walker. I love meeting new ‘work colleagues’. It’s a lonely job being self employed at times so it’s always lovely to see a friendly face for a quick wave, smile or chat 🥰🐶🐾

🐾 Say ‘hello’ to my furry & fuzzy family 🐾

When I’m not out walking, training, cuddling or caring for your gorgeous pets, I’m at home with my very own four-legged friends.

They’re the reason I know exactly how much love and joy (not forgetting mischief!) our pets bring into our lives. Whether it’s early morning wake up calls 🐶 sofa snuggles 🐱 or ‘help’ with the laundry 🧦, they keep me laughing every single day!

Here they are - my heart, my home and my daily reminder of why I do what I do 🥰🐶 🐱 🐹 🐾

Cows, calves, sheep, more cows and lots of sniffy things for our walk this morning.

All girls were super well behaved 😇 and ignored our other little walk time buddies (who are thankfully all in fenced fields 😂)

My week in pictures and what a wonderful week it’s been 🥰

We kicked off the week with a solo session for Nala where I found a four leafed clover 🍀

Our walks have been just wonderful and we were joined by Gunner (Eden’s brother) for one of our walks. Little Scout was amazing as ever and really getting her play on! Yakki, I think she’s quickly become the matriarch of our Dishforth group 🥰

Visits this week resumed for Maisie, Doug, Tilly and Dora who, as always were good as gold. I even got to meet their super cute neighbours ☺️

Lola, Hugo, Roxy and Ruby - these four just melt me! They’re super chatty now and I never escaped a visit without kisses and snuggles 😍

Then little Otto - he joined for a solo/intro on Wednesday then came to play with friends on Thursday and Friday. He’s not a local lad but his grandparents are and I was happy to help out 🐶

Yesterday we bumped into Fi's Furry Friends and her gorgeous pups! Always a pleasure seeing her out and about but this is the first time we walked a little way together 🥰
