Hi everyone 👋🏼

I hope you're having a lovely Easter weekend 🐣

I'm posting to ask for some opinions please. At the moment all of the salon waste goes to landfill and I've never been that comfortable with it but I didn't have any alternative other than to use some in the spring to help the birds with their nests.

Well, I've found this company called The Green Groomers Collective that collects salon hair waste and recycles it into things like boons and mats to help soak up oil spills, or to put into industrial fertiliser (hair is packed with nitrogen so is great for fertiliser), I've added a few of the other uses in the pictures below, they have 10 in total. I've been researching this company for a while and I really think they are fab. They work with hair salons as well as dog salons too.

So, I'm asking for opinions because I think this a fantastic idea, not only is it saving it from landfill but it's actually going to good use!

How it would work is simple, when you come for your appointment I'll ask you if you'd be happy to pay a £1 'Green Fee' with your appointment, if you're happy to do so, then all of your dogs hair will go into a specific bin that's collected when full and taken to the company's recycling centre to make all sorts of things (the boons for clean ups are what have sold it for me). Your £1 fee helps me towards paying for the bag for the hair and the collection of it.

Louie is a sweet and slightly nervous (and camera shy!) pupper but calmer when I'm holding him and he can see what's happening. His sister (who is affectionately nicknamed Minnie the Velcro Dog because she likes to cling to me and shove her face onto my face) is a nervous pupper too. They come in for their appointments together and I only have 2 hands, so I had to get creative, and it's worked a treat!

Please let me introduce you to baby Murphy. Isn't he just BEAUTIFUL! Baby Murphy is a working cocker spaniel that came for his first puppy appointment today and he is a very busy pup, hence his step tracker on his collar. He promises me that he will grow into it.

Murphy was an absolute superstar today and took everything in his stride (as long as he was handsomely paid in treats 😂), his humans are doing a fab job with this incredibly intelligent boy (seriously, he's one of the most intelligent pups I've ever met!) I'm already looking forward to seeing him again 🐾

For some reason Facebook has wiped over half of my business reviews and I don't seem to have any way of finding them which is quite frustrating 🙄. Hi everyone 👋🏼

Some of you will know that I deal with nervous/aggressive dogs at The Dog Salon Lincs alongside some well behaved pups. I've been asked a few times over the years if I've been bitten or if I muzzle the aggressive dogs or why I even allow these kinds of dogs into the Salon. And to answer honestly, I get an immense amount of satisfaction from working with a dog and them gradually learning to trust me.

Below is a tool that I use to help me every day. 𝗜 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀. Dogs do talk, you just have to learn how to listen.

Please bear in mind that I've been working with dogs for over 9 years now and I'm STILL learning new things and subtle little tells or signs, so this isn't something that you learn over night; but if you can take a little time each day to research you'll learn so much about how your pup interacts in the world.

Something to keep in mind as well, a lot of the examples below are contextual, so you have to take into account what else is happening at the time, i.e. panting but because they've just been running around and they're hot, scratching their body because they just have an itch, lip licking but they've just eaten. I'm giving easy examples here but you understand my point.

I've been sat this evening lost in my thoughts. It goes without saying that the best part of my job is, by far, the amount of dogs I see on a regular basis, I think I'd be in the wrong line of work if I didn't feel like that! My husband would tell you (with an eye roll), that if I see one of your dogs when we're out and about I'll shout 'ooh they're one of mine!' and then proceed to spout out everything I know about that particular dog in one long sentence without pausing for breath. I genuinely think the world of your pups (even the bitey ones 😂).

On the other side of the coin, one of the hardest parts of my job is saying goodbye. And I've received messages from 3 separate customers in the last 10 days to say that sadly their dog has passed away.

To all of my customers with pups that have gone on from here, your dogs may not be mine, but after seeing them regularly and watching them grow older, learning their quirks, and building trust with them, they feel like part of my extended family. Receiving the inevitable messages never gets any easier, because in a small way, I feel like they're my dogs too and I’m grateful for every wag, every cuddle, every soaking and every licky-kiss I’ve had with them.

Can anyone recommend any reputable dog rescue / charities that would offer foster care for 2 small dogs while their owner is in hospital for 3-4 months?

I'm waiting to hear back from the Cinnamon Trust but I'm not sure the dogs' owner will meet all of their criteria.
