A little update on Leopold, the matted limping stray we rescued over 6 weeks ago.
His paw healed well while his fur is a little reluctant to grow back. The hair follicles need a while to recover from the trauma but we are getting there...
Now we are facing a much bigger obstacle because Leopold is suffering from neuropathic (nerve) pain at the base of his tail. Despite medication he is constantly attacking the area, so we had x-rays done. They revealed an old injury of fused vertabrea (probably caused by an RTA tail pull injury).
Unfortunately the only way to address this would be a tail amputation, but because it's so high up it needs to be done at a referral vet clinic.
We have Leopold booked in for the 29th and until then he needs to wear his cone.. He does get little breaks to groom himself 😻

Siblings Suzie & Sooty came into our care this week. We helped their owner 11 years ago with trapping and spaying of a semi feral cat, who had dropped these (then) kittens at their doorstep. The kind lady already had Suzie and Sooty neutered by then.
Sadly her partner died a while ago and she is now very poorly and bed bound, unable to look after her cats any longer.
Suzie & Sooty were understandably terrified with carers going in and out of the property. A neighbour locked them indoors on Monday and we managed to catch Suzie. Unfortunately Sooty managed to escape underneath the floorboards of the raised dining room and there was no way of getting to him.
We set up 2 traps and somehow he got the food out and set them off without being trapped. After 3 agonising days Sooty finally became more careless and was caught this morning.
Suzie & Sooty are now vet checked, microchipped, vaccinated and flea treated and finally reuinited at their foster home. It will take them a while to settle and recover from their trauma.
Once they start to relax and blossom, this healthy 11 year old pair will be looking for their forever home together 😻😻

Gorgeous 3 year old Rocky has now been neutered and looking for an indoor home with a female or two. Rocky still has 4 weeks to go until his 6 weeks is up but he is doing extremely well and is a very friendly boy. Please call Lisa 07796 368243

🧡🧡🧡 Little Otto update for all you generous people 🧡🧡🧡

Otto is still confined and will be until he goes back in another 4 1/2 weeks for x-ray and examination but as you can see and we can hear from the purring he is content and doing well despite the whole change of circumstances for him ❤️‍🩹🐱💗

Leopold is currently at our vets. He was so badly matted that he needed to be completely shaved. How much discomfort must that poor boy have been in!
The reason for his limping was also finally discovered: his hind foot toes had a badly infected bite wound which has now been cleaned and treated. Leopold tested positive for FIV and is currently being castrated.
He’ll be able to come home later this afternoon 😻

Dora - REHOMED

Dora is a lovely little 2 year old girl whose owner has sadly died. Initially quite timid, she very quickly came out of her shell and now loves her toys and interacting with her fosterer. She's very purry and will often chirp happily whilst playing hide and seek under her favourite blanket. Dora is neutered, microchipped and up to date with vaccinations and flea + worming treatments. She has a loving and gentle nature and could possibly live with respectful children or another young cat. Dora has always been an indoor only cat and never showed interest in the outdoors.

This is Leopold, a long term stray who was reported to us on Monday with a strong limp. We were worried that his leg may be broken and tried for 5 days to locate him and find a safe place to set up a trap. Last night he was caught with the help of a kind local lady who even brought him to us. Leopold was not happy to be in the trap, growling and hissing in fear.
We made an appointment for him in first thing this morning and surprisingly our vet was able to flex Leopold's hind leg fully without him showing any obvious signs of pain.
His fur is so badly matted that it forms a solid thick shell around his whole body (which could have possibly pulled the skin on his leg and caused him discomfort). It will have to be completely shaved off. Because there is no immediate urgency with the leg we have booked Leopold in for Tuesday where he will have a full MOT under anaesthetic: castration, de-matt, bloods, microchip, claw trim and an x-ray if he is still limping then. At least his teeth are in really good condition for a long term stray 😻
For now Leopold is on Metacam for pain relief.
