broodmares emit more oxytocin when they become pregnant and even more when giving birth. This hormone is vital to mare and foal bonding and it has a calming effect on all surrounding horses, colts and fillies alike. Applied to yourself Pax becomes effective on any horse you handle during the course of the day. It not only calms the horse but it can promote a bond likened to that a foal has to the mare. Bonding promotes better communication, and good communication forms the basis for good training!

Foal Update

We haven’t yet found a foster mare who has recently lost a foal who can come to Cotebrook so please keep sharing, however the foal is doing well and we are very busy exploring other options. Thanks for all your help and messages of support.

Miranda had a difficult birth but appeared ok after treatment from the vet, unfortunately she became very poorly again today.

She is perky at the moment and sat up but although she has tried a couple of times she is too weak to stand up.

She is eating the haylage we have put in front of her and the foal is continuing to drink from her whilst she is lying down.

The vet is due in the morning and we will share a further update then.
