🐹 WHEEK WHEEK! Today is Guinea Pig appreciation day.

🥕 Here are some facts to celebrate these adorable furry potatoes.

🌎 Despite their name guinea pigs don’t come from Guinea. They originate from the Andes region of South America.

🐷 They are rodents and are not related to pigs.

🐹 They are very chatty and use several noises to communicate. The most well known being ‘Wheek Wheek’, which is used as a form of excitement, or to find a friend. A low purring sound is made when they are content and relaxed.

🐾 They have an odd number of toes, with 4 on their front feet and only 3 on their back feet.

😴 Guinea pigs only sleep for short periods and can be active for up to 20 hours a day.

🐹 Typically they can live from 5 to 7 years. The oldest Guinea pig recorded in the Guinness World Records was Snowball, who lived to the age of 14 years and 10 months.

🐾 Everyone say hello to the handsome Presley.

🐶 Presley belongs to our lovely receptionist Mayah. He is on our Bobbing Hill Plan and came in to see our nurse Leanne, for his growing puppy check.

🪱 These are tapeworms!

🪱 Tapeworms are endoparasites that live in the intestines of the infected animal.

🐾 There are many ways in which animals can be infected with tapeworms, some examples being, eating other infected animals, eating raw or undercooked meats and even ingesting fleas.

🩺 Our Nexgard Combo spot on for cats and Quantex tablets for cats and dogs both treat tapeworms.

🩺 Speak to your vet to get some tapeworm treatment if you are worried that your pet may be infected.

🐹 Everyone meet the adorable Sebastian.

🐾 Sebastian is one of our nurses guinea pigs. He was in recently as his breathing was abnormal.

🩻 Following a clinical examination, x-ray and an ultrasound nothing of concern was found.

🌟Sebastian was discharged with a course of antibiotics and non steroidal anti inflammatories.

🥕 We are pleased to report that he is now back to his normal, happy self, munching on his veggies.

✨Everyone meet our lovely new receptionist Mayah!

💛She officially joined the Bobbing Hill family last week and is looking forward to meeting you and your fur babies.

🐶Mayah has a cheeky cockerpoo puppy of her own called Presley as well as 2 lovely labradors, Beau and Buddy.

⚠️🌞 Hot weather 🌞 ⚠️

🌡️ With the current high temperatures please remember to take extra precautions and keep your fur babies safe, during this hot weather.

🐾 Please do not walk or exercise dogs during peak temperatures. Walk them either early morning or late evening. But remember missing a walk will not harm your dog, but a walk in the heat could.

🚗 Please do not leave your dogs in hot cars, even for a short amount of time. They are unable to regulate their body temperature in the same way we do ⚠️

✋ During this weather pavements can get extremely hot, so if it’s too hot for your hand, then it’s too hot for their paws.

🐶 Older, overweight, large and brachycephalic breeds are at higher risk of heat stroke.

🐹 Small furries such as rabbits and guinea pigs also need our help during this weather. They do not cope well with high temperatures, so steps should also be taken to ensure they are kept cool and comfortable.

💧Make sure all fur babies have constant access to fresh water and cool/ shaded areas.

⚠️ Signs of heat stroke include:
- Excessive panting
- Drooling
- Difficult breathing
- Increased heart rate
- Seizures
- Weakness/ collapse

📞 If you are worried that your fur baby is suffering from heat stroke, do not hesitate to contact your vet.

🐾 Meet the gang! Achilles, Aramis, Aria, Atticus, Augustus and Aurora.

🐈 These 6 lovely Oriental felines are just too cute, they love to announce their arrival into practice. Meow!

🐾 Remember the handsome Chester! This gorgeous boy had his tail amputated with us last year.

🐶 He recently came in to see us again, to be castrated and as always he was a star patient. As you can see he is always smiling.

🍩 We are pleased to report Chester has recovered well from his procedure and continues to spread his joy.

🐶 Everyone meet the lovely Luna. She recently underwent a BOAS (brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome) procedure.

🐾 The procedure helps brachycephalic breeds by reconstructing their airways. This involves, widening nostrils, shortening the soft palate and sometimes correcting any laryngeal deformities.

☀️ Brachycephalic breeds are at higher risk of heatstroke in hot weathers. It’s important to note any breed can suffer from heatstroke.

⚠️ Heatstroke is a serious condition that can be life threatening. Some symptoms include, panting, lethargy, collapsing and seizures.

🦮 To prevent heatstroke, avoid walking your dogs at peak times, ensure fresh water is available and keep them generally cool.

📞 If you are worried that your dog is suffering from heatstroke, do not hesitate to contact your vet.

⭐️ The lovely Luna has recovered well and is back to her cheeky self.
