Do faecal egg counts tell you how many worms are inside your horse?

Faecal egg counts provide an indication on the potential exposure of parasite eggs that can contaminate the grass. It does not show how many adult worms or those encysted within the gut linning.
FEC's are a monitoring tool, used alongside serum testing including Equisal Tapeworm tests. These tools help to monitor parasite levels and when used frequently they can help to identify horses in your herd that could be at higher risk of parasite infections and high egg shedders. 🐛
