Salt's Helping Hounds Rescue is a small, foster based rescue run by a fabulous team of dedicated volunteers. We are UK based and are lucky enough to have Admin and Volunteers throughout the country. This enables us to find the best homes for our dogs, irrespective of location. Our dedicated team fundraise vigorously and are constantly recruiting foster carers so that we can continue to save the un

derdog. We save the dogs that other's won’t. Before rehoming, our dogs are fully assessed, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and flea treated. All adoptions are under Contract and are subject to successful homecheck and adoption donation being paid. Our minimum adoption donation is £295. All our dogs are given full Rescue Backup for the entirety of their lives. Our foster carers are vital to the running of the rescue and receive the full support of the rescue when caring for our dogs. ‼️‼️‼️ WE NEED YOUR HELP TO KEEP OUR DOGS SAFE ‼️‼️‼️

Right now, we are facing one of the toughest moments in our rescue’s journey.

Last month’s kennel bill was £3,570.13. Thanks to the incredible kindness of our supporters, through donations and fundraising we were able to pay £2,051.38. That still leaves a balance of £1,518.78 from June. With July’s bill of around £1,178 just days away, the pressure is growing.

If we cannot get on top of these bills, our dogs may have to leave the safety of Abbey Boarding Kennels. For our dogs, moving is not just inconvenient. It could break the progress they have fought so hard to make.

Many of our dogs have lived through fear, neglect, and trauma. Abbey’s incredible team has given them patience, structure, and love, helping them to trust again. For some, it is the first time in their lives they have felt truly safe.

It is so important that we keep up to date with our bills to Abbey. Being behind puts their livelihood at risk and impacts the dogs they have committed to. Abbey has always supported us, and we cannot let our debt grow to the point where it threatens the care of our dogs or theirs.

When we take on a dog, we make a promise that we will give them the time they need. We never rush adoptions or compromise on finding the right home because the right home can take weeks, months, or even longer. That commitment comes with costs, and we are desperately asking for help so we can keep that promise.

We know times are hard for everyone, and rescues everywhere are struggling. But without urgent support, we cannot pay our bills, and we cannot keep our dogs safe where they belong.

What's occurrin? Humphrey here. I have a "thing". I can't help it. I love sticks and the bigger the better. I likes to chew 'em and drag 'em and if you're very lucky, I'll even share my stick with you. That's what I wants most in the world - my very own people that I can share my stick with.

I don't ask for much, but I thought I'd put my perfect home wishlist in for you.

Humphrey’s Wishlist:

* A forever or foster-to-forever home with someone who gets him
* No other dogs. Humphrey wants to be your one and only

Hi, I’m Mabel.

When I first arrived in rescue, I was hanging on by a thread. I was sick, weak, and I didn’t even know if I was going to make it. But I did. Because Abbey Boarding Kennels didn’t give up on me.

They kept me safe, gave me the care I needed, and stayed with me through every single setback. They even paid for everything themselves when no one else stepped up. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be here today.

And now? I’m alive, I’m thriving, and I’m ready for the next part of my journey.

I’m stronger now. My legs don’t wobble like they used to. I’m at a healthy weight, and I’ve discovered that toys are the best thing ever. I’ve got a huge appetite for food, life, and anything squeaky. I’m also learning how to just be a dog, which is something I missed out on before.

But here’s the thing – I can’t stay here forever. I need a home, even if it’s just a foster home for now, where I can keep learning and growing.

Here’s what I’m looking for:

Hi, I’m Norm. Some of you might know me as Storm, but that was then. I’m Norm now, and I’m ready to start again.

My story almost ended badly. Really badly. I was let down more than once. First by someone who said they would help me, but instead left me in a pound. Then by people who promised to support me but vanished when I needed them most.

But I didn’t give up. And Abbey Boarding Kennels didn’t give up on me either.

They saw past the scared, confused dog everyone else walked away from. They gave me time, patience, and love when no one else would. They paid for my care themselves after the people who said they were responsible for me disappeared.

It hasn’t been easy. Learning to trust again isn’t something you do overnight. But Abbey never gave up. Every walk, every cuddle, every silly little win, they were there. And now I’m starting to feel like the dog I was always meant to be.

I’m goofy. I’m loyal. I love people I can trust, and I really want to find my person, the one who won’t ever leave me behind.

So here’s what I need in my forever home:

A calm and confident person or family who understands dogs like me
A safe garden to play in
No cats or small furry animals
Adults only, or older teens who get that I need time to settle
I’d prefer to be your only dog, but I might be okay with the right calm female dog
Most of all, I need patience, love and consistency while I learn that I’m safe for good this time
I’m still young at heart and making up for the puppyhood I never really had. I’m silly, I’ll make you laugh, and I’ll be your best friend if you give me the chance.

The people at Salt’s Helping Hounds Rescue are doing everything they can for me, but they’re struggling. The truth is, without donations, they can’t keep helping dogs like me. Abbey gave me my second chance, and I want them to be able to say yes to the next dog who needs saving too.

Introducing Enzo - the amazing, unique colour changing dog

Enzo’s Sofa Surfing Skills Are Next Level – Now He Just Needs One to Call His Own

I'm Enzo. Rehab graduate, sofa-surfing prodigy, and certified snack enthusiast. I’ve done my time in chaos, lived through disappointment, and somehow managed to keep my wag and my wit intact. Not bad for a lad who was once forgotten.

My past? A mess. I was failed by the very people who should have given me a future. But I’m not stuck there anymore. Thanks to Salt’s Helping Hounds and Save Our Seized Dogs-Putting BSL to Sleep UK, I was given a chance and I took it. They handed me over to the professionals at Abbey Boarding Kennels, who enrolled me in their School of How to Be a Good Boy (with Honours in Sofa Surfing). And honestly? I’ve aced it.

These days, I’m thriving. Confident, clever, and cuddly with a touch of velcro. I’m the kind of dog who wants to be near you, with you, occasionally on top of you, but always beside you.

So, why am I still waiting?
Here’s the deal:
