Did you know that mares are at a higher colic risk post foaling? Usually about 8 weeks post foaling to be exact!

That is what happened to the gorgeous mare below. Luckily Shara sent her straight to hospital for surgery and she is now back with her beautiful foal and doing really well! 😍

Molly had a very rough foaling recently and had at least one vet (at one point she had three of us!) with her for around 7 hours straight.. luckily she is an absolute fighter and has bounced back ❤️

We feel so lucky to have these beauties as clients 😍

This Clydesdale mare had colic surgery just two months after giving birth and was found to have a 720° colon twist. Such a major operation on such a large horse meant her chances of surviving were 50/50.

NB The image of the mare on the operating table that we have included at the link below is fascinating — but not for the squeamish!

Wolf teeth removal - what does it involve?

Not a lot! An injection of some sedation and painkiller, a nerve block/some local anaesthetic, a bit of wiggling (some more than others) and hey presto!

Afterwards it’s just a few days of painkiller and two weeks without a bit. Simples!

Flexion tests - what are we doing when we bend your horses legs?

If you’ve ever had a lame horse then you have probably seen one of us perform these! By flexing different parts of the horses leg we can apply extra pressure on certain areas, like the digital flexor tendon sheath. Usually if we apply extra pressure to the right area it will temporarily make the horse more lame.. and help us make a plan to help!

Baby teeth 🐣

We always recommend having your horses teeth done before you start the bitting process, to try and make everything go as smoothly as possible!

Young teeth also grow much faster so we usually recommend having young horses teeth done every 6 months to keep on top of any sharp overgrowths!
