Will my dog calm down?
Will my dog mellow as they age?
This doesn't last forever right?
So many times I've been asked this, and ultimately it really does depend on what your version of "calming down" means. The people that usually ask me this question are those with dogs who have alot of...zest for life shall we say. In which case, my answer is that they will mature and things will get easier but they will always need a certain lifestyle.
You can't just get to a certain point and stop doing fun and exciting things with your dog or expect them to just be perfect forever more. Why would you want that anyway.
Until the day Jaffa passed away, she was still so enthusiastic and motivated for everything we would do with her. And I have no doubt Jacob will be the same. We have been settled into a decent routine and he has been 'well trained' for years, but the only reason that is the case is our consistency with training and effort into fulfilling their needs.
Change your perspective. You don't HAVE to provide your dog with outlets, games, training etc. You GET to do these things, it's a privilege.
