We went out to work with Scotty this week. He really struggles with anyone or anything approaching him when he's outside of his home, his safe zone. He worked very hard and was exhausted after our visit!

We had a great time yesterday. Presenting a workshop on reducing fear of the veterinary practice. Having great fun with this beautiful boy, practicing freework and a chin rest. Both ideal for fear free veterinary visits.

What an absolute pleasure to work with the BEAUTIFUL little Maud. She's really worried about going into the car and we played some games and gave her brilliant care givers some exercises to work on. What a face! 🐕🐾🐶

Oh Woody!! What a superstar!
When I first met Woody, he was too frightened to even walk across the car park at the vets. Today the fabulous Claire Wood Veterinary Group managed to listen to his heart and chest, practice mock injections and even simulate an IM injection. This boy had done so well, huge amounts of work by his wonderful care givers and a great collaboration between vets, behaviour and care giver team has made such a difference! 🥰🎊🥳🎉

When I am working with an animal whom I suspect has pain as a contributing factor in their behaviour displays and responses. 🐕🐈🐇🐀

I always ask the care giver to request a behavioural pain trial from their vet.🏥

And ideally get support/assessment from a Qualified physiotherapist.

Behaviour analgesia trials should ideally last at least 6 weeks and utilise 2 different medication types to attempt to cover as many of the pain pathways as possible. 😞🔨

To gain adequate monitoring data for this, I always ask for, a validated pain score be completed at the beginning and the end, dianostic quality video footage of the animal moving, and a diary coveting the period of the trial to track and measure swings. 📝✏️🖊

We are still struggling to manage hidden pain in many humans who have a voice and way of saying exactly where it hurts. We need to support and advocate for our pets and animals as a minimum standard. 💪✊️

I harp on about this on a daily basis. Gathering data is essential for animals whi may have painful conditions affecting their behavioural responses.
