Please can all our registered clients always call our normal number 01983 896889 if they have a veterinary emergency outside of our normal opening hours and need to access emergency veterinary treatment before our next opening hours. This ensures your call is triaged and passed to the correct on call vet without delay and the patient’s clinical notes can be requested so the most appropriate care for the patient can be given. Please do not call the other practices we share our vets out of hours rota with directly as this causes confusion! Many thanks for your help. 🐾

We have just had a lovely friendly chocolate labrador brought in who was found wandering in Ashey Road in Ryde. He is microchipped but no answers on the registered phone numbers. He is well and is happily settled with us. If he is yours or you know who's he is then please get in touch with us when we open in the morning at 8:45am. Thank you.

This is Lucy- she joined our team originally as a locum vet to provide some holiday cover and then liked us so much she decided to stay 😀😀😀. Qualifying in Australia in ‘08 with a Masters in Infectious Disease from the RVC in London. She has worked all over the UK and also in the Middle East so has brought a wealth of experience with her. She has 4 adopted dogs (including the one pictured!) and 5 adopted cats. Lucy loves all aspects of clinical practice at Wight Vets. She has a particular interest in dermatology cases including ears. Lucy is passionate about sustainable and ethical feeding.

*Update at bottom*
Female tortoiseshell cat, brought in to Wight Vets 22/5/25, found on Beckford Road in Cowes showing abnormal behaviour (staggering about) by a member of the public. He has knocked doors nearby with no success, but thinks she lives nearby as he has seen her about before. Unfortunately she is not microchipped, no collar and was also blind when she came in. We are urgently looking for her owner(s) please get in touch with us on 01983 896889. First photo when she came in very poorly, subsequent photos with her looking much happier more recently. ☺️
*Update 27/5/25* She has improved a lot since she has been with us, her neurological symptoms are much improved and she has recovered her sight 😀. Several people in the area she was found think they recognise her but no one knows who her owner is despite going door to door, posters, flyers etc 😥. If no one comes forward and we can get her well enough we will explore if one of the local charities will take on finding her safe warm home🤞🐾.
*Update 29/5/25*
Thank you Isle of Wight Cat Centre (Cats Protection IOW) who have very kindly taken over caring for her as she continues her recovery - happily she is now well enough to benefit from a larger space and outside run to explore. It is sad we have had no information as to who may have been caring for her previously despite everyone’s wonderful efforts sharing the post and going door to door. We tried. If anyone wishes to adopt one of the many lovely cats waiting for a new home or this little lady when she is well enough please do visit the CPL website or page. Thank you to everyone for their help.

🏡NEW SPACES, SAME FRIENDLY FACES 🚐🐾

As promised, we have some more GOOD NEWS to share with you. We are delighted to let you know that we are planning for WIGHT VETS to move premises to a NEW HOME next to Sainsbury's petrol station in Newport, into the former British Red Cross Headquarters building.

There’s lots to love about our little clinic at 15, Chapel Street, Newport- but with only one consulting room and no room for walk-in kennels, we decided everyone would benefit from a little more space in the long term.

Rest assured that absolutely nothing else about the practice is changing - the ownership, team, pricing, ethics, vet and nurse home visits in Voltie and Wight Vets’ unique commitment to pragmatic individually tailored care will all stay the same.

Coming soon in our NEW HOME:-

🐾LOTS OF FREE PARKING for our fabulous clients while they are visiting us
🐾Easy to find, central location and great access.
🐾Close to our current premises- just 10 minutes by foot
🐾Separate areas of the waiting room for dogs and cats- purrfect!
🐾More choice of appointment time due to…drum roll…more than one consulting room!
🐾Completely separate kennels for different species
🐾New walk-in kennels for the hugest hounds
🐾More room for all the services that we already offer and for new ones.

Our team are really excited about this next chapter for WIGHT VETS. We have some building work to do inside the building to get it all ready for our patients.

We will, of course, keep you updated and let you know once we have a MOVING DATE which we hope will be before the end of the year.

We said 2025 was going to be an exciting year for WIGHT VETS after our success last week as WINNER of “Start up Business of the Year” at the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce Business Awards 2025 we are so excited to be able to share this with you.

We’ll keep you updated on progress via our page so do feel free to follow us if you’re not already. Thank you everyone for your support it is very much appreciated. 🏡🏡

🏆WE WON!!! 🏆
We are delighted to share with you that WIGHT VETS have been awarded a beautiful trophy to celebrate winning Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce “Start Up Business of the Year” for businesses < 3 years old. What better way to celebrate the practice turning 3 years old in May?
Thank you so much to our wonderful supportive clients for their trust in us to treat our patients as if they were our own, it is an honour to take care of them. Well done to our fabulous team- their skills and hard work have got the practice to where it is today. This evening is for them.
This is an exciting year and we have some more good news to share with you very soon. We’ll pop the trophy in the waiting room so you can all enjoy it. Now, after a great evening it might be time to head home and curl up on the sofa with Teasel (lab) and Penny (cat). Thank you to you all.

*URGENT * - Please get in touch on 01983 896889 if this is your cat.

*Update in comments for those who wish to know the outcome* 😢

Sorry to report we are currently caring for an all black male cat who was found by a member of the public on the road between Hulverstone and Morristone last night. Location shown on the map.

He is an adult (probably young adult) all black male entire cat with no microchip or collar.

He has injuries consistent with having been hit by a vehicle. Sorry for no photo of the patient but he has some nasty facial injuries. 😢

He is being kept comfortable with pain relief and we are investigating the extent of his injuries so we can formulate a plan for his future.

We are aware he may not have an owner but if he does belong to anyone please can they get in touch with us asap as we would love to reunite them and involve them in the decision making process of how we treat him. Rest assured even if he has no owner we will do whatever is in his best interest. 🥰
