Please keep your pets safe and exercise early morning when it is cooler😎

Provide mental stimulation throughout the day if your pets feel like it (some pets may just prefer to sleep the day away!)😎.

Enjoy the sun, but be safe!

Hot weather is on the way this weekend ☀️🐾

Before you head out, make sure you know what temperatures are safe for your dog.

Our handy chart helps you plan walks and outdoor time — so you can avoid the heat and keep things comfortable 💛

A caption is not needed for this one👍😂

When I offer to demonstrate and workshop one of the stages of muzzle training. I love it!

(The video is muted at the request of the owner).

This chap has achieved stage one - confidently putting his mouth into the muzzle and keep his mouth in there✅

Stage two - build confidence wearing the muzzle straps (example shown here).🤓

The stage after will be putting stage one and two together.🥳

Muzzle training should be fun instead of tense, and dogs can view the muzzle as a positive thing!

‼️Important‼️
A muzzle should protect from a bite but the dog should be able to breathe properly so they can regulate their temperature.

Ruby always likes to be with us in the garage😆

What’s going on here?

CPR on a shell ball pit?🤔

Comically speaking, yes Ruby is doing CPR to the shell.

But…

Behaviourally speaking, something went underneath the shell and she is trying to figure out how to get to it (Yes with ALL of her energy🤣). At the end you’ll see she picks something up to give to my husband, this is where she is asking for help by trading that item for the one underneath.

Behaviour is so much more than “sit”, “place”, “paw”, it’s nuanced communication and they tell us everything if we know how to read it properly.

Behaviour is not naughty, stubborn, foolish etc. (even though at times their behaviour does make us swear😂) there are multiple levels to behaviour which is just fascinating to learn😎.

SEPARATION ANXIETY

There has been a lot of new research into “separation anxiety” and how to improve emotional and behaviour change for this area.

Here we have Dobby - some of you may remember her from when we were working through different aspects of her behaviour.

In this clip you will see the first steps accomplished of Dobby’s plan which is a simple “Can I remain calm and stay on my mat when my mom stands up”.

It’s sounds so simple and some may say “why don’t you just start with leaving the house as that’s the trigger?”.

But it’s the build up to being left that’s caused this behaviour. We’re teaching Dobby she doesn’t need to follow her mom everytime and she will come back.

Before doing any separation work it is important that Dobby is in a low arousal (calm energy) state to be able to learn to deal with not following her mom and stay where she is (and feeling comfortable with it).

We can all agree these guys bossed it!

The photograph of Dobby asleep afterwards is why we approach this at a gradual steady pace to help Dobby learn effectively everytime we increase the difficulty.

Long sessions are not needed, a tired brain will not learn properly. Short sessions with quality learning is what will help make progress😎.

Well done!

Scent rolling? Possibly

Likes the feel of the grass? Possibly

Showing her frustration because I needed to re engage her attention (calm her arousal level) after she tried to run after a plastic bag and couldn’t say hi to a dog? Definitely the most plausible answer😆

We all have those dogs that show their frustration, it just shows differently in each of them. Do you know what body language your dog does to express their frustration?

You can book my body language workshops again to find out about the emotions, motivations and the skills needed to read your dogs & cats behaviour😎

Hi everyone I’m back off maternity leave!

I am returning to work with part time hours due to our personal circumstances caring for our boy🩵.

I will be open Monday to Friday answering emails, messages, and working on behaviour plans but only Thursdays will be available to book consultations between 10am-4pm.

There have been some amendments to my services for simplicity, I will now only be working through veterinary referred behaviour cases. Eventually my workshops and classes will return when time allows it in my personal life.

Many thanks for your understanding and I would greatly appreciate a share of my post to help spread the word I am back!

FAO Veterinary Surgeons: I have provided a referral form on my website for you view and complete when referring a case https://www.fearfreebehaviour.com/referralform
