Felis Britannica is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Eric Reijers, FIFe General Secretary.

Eric was a larger-than-life character—an extremely knowledgeable judge, a gifted linguist, and a dedicated figure within the FIFe community. He judged regularly in the UK and leaves behind a remarkable legacy of wisdom, humour, and unwavering commitment to the cat fancy.

We are especially grateful for the key role Eric played in helping to establish Felis Britannica as the UK member of FIFe. His guidance and encouragement in those early days were instrumental in laying the foundation for who we are today.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the honour of knowing him.

Rest in peace, Eric. You will be greatly missed.

Felis Britannica Statement in Response to ITV Coverage of Dispute in Cat Showing

Felis Britannica, the United Kingdom’s official member organisation of FIFe - Fédération Internationale Féline (FIFe), wishes to make clear that it is not involved in the situation reported in the ITV News article aired and published on 29 July 2025, titled “A bitter row erupts in the world of cat shows”.

While the report highlights a dispute between individuals and organisers within the UK cat show scene, Felis Britannica is not named, referenced, nor connected to the events, individuals, or organisations described.

Maintaining Integrity in Cat Showing
As an established and respected part of the UK cat fancy for over two decades—and with roots in FIFe’s international network extending over 75 years—Felis Britannica takes this opportunity to reaffirm the values that underpin our work:

• Fairness, transparency, and professionalism in the running of all cat shows under the FIFe framework.

• Cat welfare above all else, with all shows adhering to strict ethical standards, welfare rules, and breed-specific care.

• Welcoming and inclusive events that prioritise the experience of exhibitors, visitors, judges, and cats alike.
• Accountable governance, with clubs, officials, and show organisers operating under a robust and established set of FIFe regulations.

Our Distance from Recent Media Reports

Felis Britannica does not condone hostility, public disputes, or behaviours that compromise the positive spirit of the cat fancy. While others may engage in unregulated or independently-run shows, Felis Britannica events are fully compliant with FIFe’s international rules, supported by decades of experience, and overseen by trained, licensed officials.

We are proud of our long-standing reputation—both in the UK and globally—as a trusted, structured, and principled organisation in the world of pedigree cat showing.

Looking Ahead

Felis Britannica continues to:
• Provide high-quality shows across the UK in partnership with our FIFe-affiliated member clubs.
• Promote education, cat welfare, and responsible breeding.
• Foster collaboration and community across the UK and international cat fancy.
• Welcome exhibitors from all backgrounds, including non-FIFe members, under our current inclusive entry policy.

For those unfamiliar with our work, we encourage the public and media to visit our website and learn more about the FIFe show system and our role in maintaining excellence in pedigree cat events.
