Good afternoon, folks
We try and keep our socials as positive as possible, sharing lovely updates with you whenever we are able, but we also want to be transparent, because the work we do is incredibly challenging. It's been a really tough few months and today, we are really feeling it 😪
You may remember Pinky and Perky from back in January. At the time, we had closed our rehoming applications but we were asked if we could help by a number of people and organisations. Given the two boys had no shelter in sub zero temperatures and were escaping from the paddock into the local village, they were in immediate danger and all other avenues had been exhausted; something had to be done. It has since come to light the authorities involved would have had to put them to sleep.
Luckily, one of our fosters offered an emergency space so we could neuter Perky and hopefully confirm a permanent placement.
During their time in foster, Perky has shown aggression and has bitten his foster carer. We think this could be largely down to testosterone, but also down to frustration and perhaps fear from feeling confined to a small area. The boys are currently still in that emergency pen, meaning they have very little space and do not have outdoor access. Perky has now been neutered but sadly, due to this event, we need a very special home or foster who has experience with large pigs so we can assess how he gets along with more space and freedom.
We desperately want to get them into a more suitable space, as things are, it feels as though we are letting them down but finding suitable homes for large pigs is challenging at the best of times.
The two of them deserve to finally have a safe, loving home and we won't give up on them!
