QUESTION TIME & 🔥COMPETITION TIME 🔥

I'd just like to address something I'm beginning to see a whole lot and I personally think it's more due to lack of knowledge in this particular area than selfishness.

For those who don't know this is my 14.3hh oversize Fell pony nicknamed Big G.

G is 25 years old and within the last two years I took a full year off for medical purposes, I think I rode twice in that full year and him along with our little mini Shetland Toffeeiki and their sadly late brother our little Welsh B x Buie were all on retirement livery whilst I rehabbed - and no although I'm crazy it's not drugs 🤣

This is the result of a well ridden and well exercised horse who suddenly didn't have a rider and didn't get exercised and lost a lot of weight with undiagnosed (at the time) PPID.

This is us working towards rebuilding that fell pony stature.

Questions:

1. Can you tell me if he should be currently ridden?

2. Can you tell me which part of the body needs the focus to be rebuilt and which parts need maintenance whilst the other unlock and rebuild?

3. Can you tell me which body workers I recommend and why?

4. Said recommended body worker, do I ask my clients to invite them before or after the program?

5. Is anyone up for a prize winning challenge?

Please comment below with your answers numbered and listed to be entered into our competition for a Sur-Prize!
The competition closes on Sunday at 1800 ☺️

This is an old Victorian photo of Amos H Rockwell driving his Morgan horses bridle less in the USA.

So it goes to show that even back then some people were trying different ways to ride and train and even carriage drive their horses. He even wrote books of horsemanship and training and displayed his Morgan horses bridle less around the USA

Found the info:

‘While you may look at this photograph and think “nah, that’s definitely Photoshopped,” this is in fact an actual undoctored photo of Amos H. Rockwell and his two Morgan stallions, Morgan Tiger and Morgan Star. Rockwell was famous all over the Union for driving horses without bridles or full harness: the horses were hitched to the carriage only with a surcingle. They were guided only by Rockwell’s voice and his driving whip, and could walk, trot and even sometimes canter, both alone in demonstration and on busy crowded roadways, darting in and out of other wagons. This photograph was taken in the mid-1860s.

Backing up this image is Volume 17 of Country Life in America, a book-length magazine printed in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and published by Doubleday, Page, & Company. The 1909 volume details Rockwell’s feats of horsemanship:

“While [the Morgan breed] was in its zenith in public favor, Mr. Amos H. Rockwell astonished the horse world by driving a team of Morgan stallions in the open street without the use of reins, guiding and controlling them only with the use of a ten-foot whip. These horses were driven and exhibited in every state in the Union and very thoroughly demonstrated to all beholders some of the Morgan’s strongest attributes, which are great intelligence coupled with docility and fearless courage.”

QUESTION TIME!

As owners it is our responsibility to ensure our horses health.

Their health includes their muscles being fit and healthy. It may take a while, it may take a couple of weeks, but whatever muscle is lost must be rebuilt! Do your saddle fitter a favour, rehab damaged muscles 😊

He's not there yet, but he's getting there... 25 years old and under a Saoirse Physiology Program, and kicking butt!

Can anyone guess his breed?

I love this quote and only the quote, train them to stretch, train them to relax and lengthen before you gather, and when you gather, ask nicely and don't overbend

Johan Hamminga comments: “When you make the horse longer and you give him more rein and you keep the contact, you develop a longer neck, and then it is possible for the horse to stretch his hind legs under his body, like in the canter photo where the hindleg is nearly to the girth, and that is riding for me.”
