“She's too young to neuter, she's still a kitten.”
Yes. And kittens can have kittens.
This week we celebrate World Spay Day. Did you know that female cats can come into season from as young as 4 months old? A female cat can have 2 to 3 litters per year, sometimes more. Each litter can average 3 to 6 kittens. If those kittens go on to breed, the numbers increase rapidly.
This is why our rescue centres are so overwhelmed.
We regularly see tiny, underweight young mums who are still growing themselves, trying to raise litters they were never physically ready for. Pregnancy and birth at such a young age increases the risk of complications and long term health problems.
Spaying your cat is not “taking something away” from her. Quite the opposite, it's the most caring thing you can do. It protects her from repeated pregnancies, reduces the risk of serious illness, and gives her the chance of a longer, healthier life.
If your cat is not yet neutered, please contact our Lewisham Centre to book an appointment. Early neutering from 4 months old is safe, routine, and one of the most important steps you can take for your cat’s health.

We are currently caring for more than 750 rescue cats across our centres. Many of them are here because of accidental litters that could have been prevented. This World Spay Day, please share this post and help us spread the facts.
Neuter early. Prevent suffering. Save lives.
